    Earthshine

Was out just after sunset tonight and saw the setting moon with very noticeable [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetshine"]earthshine[/ame]. After I got home, quickly set up the telescope and camera and snapped some shots before the moon disappeared behind the mountains.

    Moon setting behind the mountains:

Earthshine -- the sunlit portion of the moon (above) is already behind the mountain -- what is visible here is lit purely by sunlight being reflected off Earth:

It'll probably depend on conditions, but the best chance to catch earthshine is when the moon is thin (which it is now).

fuzz, have you ever shot the intlnl. space station. We viewed it the other day while in Utah, with the space shuttle trailing behind. pretty cool. I know there is a NASA website that predicts veiwing shedule based on location. just curious
    Nothing clever to say.

It would be very, very difficult, if not near impossible, to shoot the ISS/shuttle/any satellite through the telescope -- they travel so fast across the sky, they cross the telescope's field of view in a second or two. I do need to try shooting with just the camera + 270mm lens (although I think it'd show up as just points of light).
