    Beacon weirdness?

Skinning yesterday my beacon beeped out of nowhere....sounding just like it switched to receive and came right back. Can't be sure as I didn't see it switch but made the same series of beeps. Anyone experienced that?

no actual experience, but sounds like it could be a loose wire or battery...

Mine is the newer tracker with the upgraded (not!) harness. Didn't smack it at all just walking peacefully up a slope. How many years is BCA's warranty?

    Z,

I think its probably the battery terminals. If they get bent then the battery becomes loose and can either cause the beacon to not work or be intermittent.

Similar thing happened to my touring partner. We get to the trailhead, gear up and turn on the beacons. His is dead. He says "I just changed the batteries last week." Put new batteries in, still dead. We open it up and I bend the terminals a little bit. Works fine.

Unfortunately batteries vary quite a bit in size. Result = contact problems.

I would be very concerned if I had to bend the terminals to make contact. If the metal relaxes back to the original shape you are f*****. And will the terminals still make contact after you have been bashed about in a slide?
