I'll second the vote for the new tires. I wore mine out in ~20,000 miles and when I put new ones on, it made a world of difference. Also, the red ones look really sweet if you paint the sideskirts (the black plastic strips along the bottom) to match. It's possible that's already been done to yours, since I can't really tell from the photos.
Oh yeah, and whatever you do, don't start reading the subaru forums (NASIOC), you'll end up wanted to spend thousands of dollars on the car.
Which tires did you put on?Originally Posted by AntiSoCalSkier

I find WRX and fast in the same sentence hilarious. Decently quick yes. Fast? No. Either way, anything with more than 200 HP will get ya into trouble. Have fun with it.

Agreed... put some Continental Xtreme Contact tires on it and you'll be ready for all seasons. The stock tires couldnt be much worse.Originally Posted by AntiSoCalSkier
Some more suggestions - Go easy on the clutch, it is very weak for that kind of car. Switch out the synthetic gear oil for a cocktail: 1 qt synchromesh, 2.7 qts 80W 90 GL5 oil. It will make shifting much smoother.
And as anti said -only go to subaru forums when you have a problem with your car. If you go there too often, you will go broke.
Enjoy your new toy!
Apparently someone is offended. lol. Mid 14's in the 1/4 ain't fast. The only reason it will hit mid 14's is a redline clutch dump. But, then you hit a weakness as the car is known as having a glass tranny. Too many clutch dumps = shattered tranny. They are slugs until the turbo is spooled, so to get decent power its gotta have the turbo spooled, which then kills the gas mileage.Originally Posted by grizzle6
Don't get me wrong here, its a good car. But when it comes to fast cars, its pretty bottom of the barrel.

Yeah, WRX's aren't exactly qualified as fast without mods, unless it's a sti. The Nokian WRs are the fastest rated All-season tires made, and are pretty quiet. I like mine plenty well. And since your's is a wagon, maybe forget my first post.
Maybe but what cars under 30 grand are faster, besides the SRT-4? Add a real clutch and a few mods and it will hit 13.0 pretty easily, without ruining the clutch, for well less than any other "fast" car.Originally Posted by SIIHP
I ain't offended bro. Just a happy camper. Anything faster for me right now, and I just might be paying out the ass in tickets. (not to mention car loans.)Originally Posted by SIIHP

With the right tires, these babies are fast on the snow - and that is what matters! No? Plus they are just plain fun to drive!

Had one, did some mods, reprogrammed the ECU and various other things that cost a small fortune, was pretty fast....sold it, took it in the ass as far as resale value and bought an EVO.
Valentine One BTW.
Meanwhile, I'm still thinkin'
The resale value on the WRX is actually quite high, it's just the mods you loose all the money on.Originally Posted by Fall Line

Under 30 grand? Camaros, Mustangs, Evos, STI, SRT-4, 350Z (runs similar times)... hell, theres family sedans running similar 1/4 miles as the WRX. Sorry, but the WRX is not "fast". Its better than an econo box, but ain't some fast sports car.Originally Posted by funkendrenchman

Mustang Mach 1 - 30 grand....1/4 mile, sec@mph 13.88sec @ 101.91Originally Posted by SIIHP

SRT-4 - I already conceded was faster
Camaro - not made anymore
EVO - over 30 grand
STI- over 30 grand
Honda Accord coupe V6 is 28 grand and runs the same time
What family sedan under 30,000 is faster???
Put 5000 dollars into a WRX to make it 30 grand and there isn't much in that price range that can keep up.

Mustang GT's have hit high 13's. Start at 24. Mach 1's are running mid 13's and are still under 30. MSRP of 29,875.
350Z base model starts at 26,500. Low 14's
SRT-4 you know about
Camaros. Ain't made, but can still find new ones. Base model Z28's for low 20's run low 13's, some have hit high 12's.
Evo starts at 26,700
STI is 32, so I can give you that one.
Hell, even a Nissan Altima runs, on average, a faster 1/4 than a WRX.
If you wanna start talking mods, you can buy a used 98 Camaro, do a head/cam package, a 150 shot and leave vipers scratchin their heads.

Nissan Z, okay 26k is base and it runs a low 14.
2005 Mustang - Standing 1/4-mile 14.1–15.5 sec Car and Driver
Mistubishi Evo - Base price $28,987 Motor Trend... very close to 30k
In conclusion, the Camaro is faster but not made anymore, the Mustang is faster only as you approach 30k, the Evo is faster but is close to 30k, and the Altima is slower. Add to that, the WRX is AWD and 4 door. So what, there are 5 cars in that price range that are faster or equal and of the 5 only 2 are AWD. I would still say that for a 25,000 car the WRX is fast.
For 33,000(car and mods) you could take a WRX to Vishnu and have it run 12.8@110.4.

I hang out on a lot of car sites, know the numbers people are getting outta cars. Altimas are running mid-low 14's. Mustang GT's are running high 13's. The Evo MSRP, from their website, is 26. Not 28. Every car I listed I posted accurate real world numbers the owners are getting, and the MSRP's are from the websites. Talking cars from the last few years in the WRX price range (under 30 is what you asked), every car I listed is a faster vehicle. Hell, the Grand Prix GTP can hang with a WRX. The WRX is not "fast". They are decently quick. Thats the truth. I am not saying its a bad car, just that its not the best high performance vehicle.
