    Question Helmet Advice

What do you guys think of Vigor Helmets? I did a serch and only came up with, yes, they make full face lids and one guy wears one mountain biking as well as skiing.

Are they worth the chips? Do they fit pretty true according to what they say they'll fit (like XL, 60-62cm. would that be pretty accurate?)

I found some close-outs on ebay.

    Cheers!

Never buy a helmet without trying it on.

so true. I'm lucky that giro seems to use my melon as a template for their larges in both MTB and skiing. My friends are not so lucky.

I have a Vigor helmet that I am very happy with. It is very solid and warm. I use it mostly mid-winter and switch to a cooler Giro-9 in the spring. I bought it on Ebay based on the sizing they gave and it fit me great. The face guard takes some getting used to (eating and drinking can be challenging if you are used to other helmets - a camelback still works fine though.)
BTW - I have a medium Vigor and a medium Giro.

Yeah, I know what you mean, phUnk.

I was just looking to get a second stringer because my veteran starter is starting to show some wear and tear. (It's a Leedom)

I actually manually installed a Vigor brand face guard to my Leedom. It was funny skiing with a chew in the first couple times... They make all the difference in the world when treeskiing in low branches....

A guy on ebay has some vigors with face guards for 35 bucks. I think they are a basic model, but seem to have good head coverage. I just did a search for 'ski helmet' and most of the stuff on there is his. He actually has some Leedoms, too (in the $40-$70 range, depending on the model) but I couldn't find my size.

I used to have a vigor, it fit somewhat well, but it was very heavy, hard to hear in, and the ventilation sucked big time. Went to the gyro 9 and never looked back.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I found a pretty good deal at Sierra Trading Post in Cheyenne, Wyo on some Leedoms. I've been really happy with my Scream HP, but I've had it for like 7 years now. The liner is starting to toast out and it's been bonked more than a few times, but it's so damned comfortable. So maybe I'll just spend more money and get one I know that I will really be happy with.

    Second that motion.

    - Never by a helmet w/o ventilation. Mine is old-style and has no vents and I hate it during sunny Spring skiing days.

    - Never by a black or dark colored helmet. Can get too hot during Spring skiing.

    - Have someone talk to you and see if you can adjust the ear holes/flaps to increase the volume.

    - Giro has some very light "free-ride" models this season. They look like a bike helmet w/ on/off ventilation. I like their shape as I could slip it into my pack or attach it tightly to the outside w/o banging it into people on the telecabine. My old one is motorcycle style (rounded) and does not fit into a pack or fit tightly against the pack. It dangles off my pack, hits people behind me, and I hate it. but, I wear it skiing and love it.

You're right about that, litt. Even with the venting system, I can't wear my Leedom late season without hard-boiling my nogin. It late spring, and summer skiing I just wear a Protec skateboard helmet. It's the helmet I wear biking too. But from Dec. to about mid March up here in Wyo, the Leedom is a whole lot warmer. There has even been high wind days where I had to put duct tape over the ear slits. This is for those 15-20 below air temp days where the windchill can hit 40 below. They don't call the Snowy Range the Blowy Range for nothin'!
