    Thumbs up today at alta...

I went up for a little hike at Alta today. The plan was to head up the maintenance road in Collins gulch, peep the progress on the new lift, and then continue on to Germania ridge and the summit of Baldy. About 75% of the way to Germania, a funny white substance started to fall from the sky.

Sorry I suck with cameras. Picture doesn't show it too well, but it snowed hard for 15 or 20 minutes. Almost hard enough to make me forget that it was only the 3rd of October.

I have a feeling everyone is in for a great season, in particular Alta in late December, and Whistler in early January

Yeah, pretty cool. That happened to me today as well. Had a wedding to go to back in PC so decided that a Crest Trail Ride was needed. Starting on the descent, snow "droplets" were falling a quite a rapid pace. Pretty cool until all turned to a nice steady rain about another 1,000 feet below.

I was up early Saturday morning to check on progress. Got to the new mid-station and saw a bunch of guys that I know from the P-dog that I knew were working for Dopplemeyer this summer putting the final touches on the mid-station. I stopped and talked for awhile then headed on to Germ pass. Got up there and there was one guy from California laying conduit. Talked to him for awhile and snooped around.

The new lift isn't going to be that much different than the old location wise. Two biggest changes I saw were that 1.) the towers are now on the skier's right side of collins face - not the left anymore and 2.) the path to the high t might need a detour cause there is a tower right in the middle of the old location now. Biggest thing I saw (or didn't see) is the "new" stashes that got created ; my mind is forming a strategy already. They still got 3 towers to put in down low and few to add to up high and then string the cable. The guys from dopplemeyer assured me no problem with making opening; plus the paper last sunday quoted alta's GM saying the load test is scheduled for Nov. 15 Bring it baby!!
