    Broken on the trail

It wasn't that bad, but bad enough. Doing a descent on the new connector trail to the other parking lot at Hall Ranch. I hear some banging, thinking I have a twig stuck in my rear cog, I look back and see my rear derailuer disconnected from the frame, bouncing off of my spokes . I quick slam on the brakes before that baby lodges into my rear wheel and causes me to wreck. Somehow I realize what i have to do and get to work.

I had to pull the cable off the rear derailuer, cause the rear hanger BROKE. I didn't even hit anything that I was aware of. So off comes the deraileur and into the pack it goes. Luckily I have a chain breaker, pull out 6 or more links, line up the chain on the small front ring and whatever ring in the back is in line with the front ring. My bud told me to line it up on one down, then it will worm its way up to the next one and make it tighter, if you take out the right amount of links. All in all 7 minutes tops.

Now I am sporting a one of a kind full suspension single speed. Kick ass. Climbing back out of the gully wasn't so much fun, but not impossible cause i had lined my chain up on the small ring. Luckily from there it was only one more short climb up then all down to the lot. A few people that we ran into on the trail thought it was pretty schweet.

yesterday was a jinx day, one flat for my buddy, saw a guy loose his seat due to a busted screw on the seat (he had to take the post off and climb out standing up).

What's the worst that you've been busted on the trail? Crazy repairs?
More fucked up than a cricket in a hubcap

I guess I haven't been at it long enough to have anything fancy to write about. I did try to help a guy with the old "stuff the flat tire with grass" trick. It failed miserably and he carried his bike out.

Lost a pivot pin in my rear brake handle. But able to patch it till I got down.

I can't imagin Crinkle bounching his bike around on the trail so hard, that the deraileur mount broke.
I want a 6" travel 20lb MTB. I found the 20lb MTB, but only good for riders under 87 pounds.

For me, pretty much the same thing as you Crinkle. Did a drop in CO, derailleur jumped into my spokes at full speed, and WHAMO! Full explosion; derailleur bits and spokes were everywhere on the trail.

Fortunately it was the top of a loooong climb (White Ranch) on the Front Range, so I just went chainless and it was one of the funnest descents of my life--it really makes you think about where to gain speed and how to maintain it through all the rolls, turns, and pitches of the trail. Definitely made me a better rider in one 10 minute descent.

More people here think thats a great idea too. Sorry to say, broke a hanger a few years ago...coasted what I could, walked out the rest . I bet if I had'nt take'n the unplanned stop to twist a leaf, I could have thought that one out - NOT.

Worst: alone & 6 miles into it, sheared pin off rear shock, but this time a twist of a leaf brings brain storm . I First look in pack (good start), line shock up with holes in frame (getter better) & jam a Fuc'n alan wrench in hole (best yet), duct tape a makeshift nut (good thinking dude, it could fall out, Rode out noisy, happy & baked.

Last night on our usual Monday night ride my freehub packed it in. Not the locking up thing like they usually do when they go, it totally let go so it freewheeled in both directions. I was climbing up Kid's Stuff when it skipped a couple times then all of a sudden BANG! and that was it.

Fortunitly I was near the top so I pushed it up the rest of the way and coasted all the downhill, pushed across a couple flats, then my buddy towed me the rest of the was home after we hit the pavement.

Anyone else have trouble with LX freehubs. This is the third one for me in the last 2 seasons? I'm thinking I will go to some other hub other than Shimano now...anybody have any suggestions?
You don't need freerides when you got freeheels
