Looking for a ski buddy Denver area

Howdy, I'm looking for a ski buddy! I'm 41 and an adv. expert skier I live in the Denver area and I mainly ski Copper, WP and Loveland. I'm looking to do some side country and backcountry trips too. I have level one avy experience. I'm married with a family so I'm not on a suicide mission, but I do enjoy the steeps and deep snow and don't mind hiking a bit. If you're a competent skier who wants to get out in the side and back country write me back. This sounds like a bad singles ad but WTF nothing ventured nothing gained!

Wow, that's for sure! Welcome, JONG!

If you want to get out on on the weekdays to Berthoud, let me know. I'm not so concerned about you being a competent skier, I'm more concerned that you are a competent user of your beacon, probe, and shovel!

I want to catch up with some of you on this season. I have no problem with the skiing part, but I'll be an avy gear jong later this year and would appreciate someone letting me tag along.

It will be a little while probably before I take the class and collect the gear.

In the meantime. let's hit some inbounds stuff. Shoot me an email found at my website or pm me.

    ski buddy reply

I wouldn't mind skiing the resorts and get to know each other before we venture into the backcountry. My Avy skills are novice. I've had some training but I've never any real experience (I'd like to keep it that way) I am looking at becons to buy. Lets ski WP or Copper and go from there.

Just got your PM Ranger. I'm a little confused by this post. You say, I've never had any real experience and would like keep it that way. So you don't want to get any experience in the backcountry?

Your first sentence in your post above makes it sound like a date! "get to know other before we venture into the backcountry" Huh? Not sure why....I'd like to do some beacon drills and avalanche scenarios to make sure we know what we are doing before heading to avalanche terrain...not necessarily skiing together at a resort which doesn't really tell us anything.

I don't have a Super pass....so when you get your beacon let me know.

Oh...and go to a FOBP avalanche class - check out this thread - [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168916"]Friends of Berthoud Pass - Avalanche Education Calendar 2009 - Teton Gravity Research Forums[/ame] Classes are free (donation is valuable) They have a classroom course and a "on-snow" class

Also read "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain" by Bruce Tremper. Great Book!

Mitch....yeah let's hook up when you get your equipment. I'm sure I'll see you at Loveland. Let's go mid-week sometime. I'll hit you up.

    FOBP Class

Hi I re read my post and it was confusing. I've been to BC Heli skiing and have been cat skiing too they make you do about a half hour with the becons doing drills. I've taken the class with Bobski and I'm taking the on snow class in Feb. What I ment was I've never seen or been involve in an Avalanche. I'm bidding on a Tracker on Ebay so I should have one soon. As for skiing at a resort no biggie for me but it would show ones ability on skis and maybe overall fitness level. I'm in shape but have not skied yet this season. This sport doesn't attract too many fat slobs so I can see your point. I hope we can hook up and make some turns. Mike

I'd like to hook-up with you guys too for either loveland (season pass there) or berthoud. I'm more confident in my beacon and probing skills than my skiing abilities (second season skiing after being on a board).

PM me next time you're headed out. I'd be happy to drive, I'm leaving from denver.

I could do Tuesday depending on snow. Or Monday if I don't go to Wolf Creek.
