    Altagirl - need opinion

    Altagirl,

I've followed your posts for some time and have a lot of respect for your views. I have just picked up a pair of K2 Phat Luvs in 153 for my wife - got a great deal (if they're the right length). She's 5'3, 110 lbs. and will be using the skis in the trees mostly and in some bowls. I'm slightly concerned that 153 cm may be a tad short, though she likes her Bandit XXs (significantly skinnier) in 160... ...and skis the Atomic SL11 in 150. Any thoughts you might share?

    Thanks. Mike

I don't remember how Rossis measure against K2's, but my 167 Phat Luvs are almost the same length as 175 pocket rockets when you hold them next to each other. So I'm guessing the 153s are more like 157 or so in reality...

All my other skis are 178s or 180s (I'm 5'8"), but I wanted the Phat Luvs shorter because they were going to be my tree specific/tight terrain skis. They work great for that and I ended up using them for more of an all-purpose ski than I expected (fun on groomers and in open powder too). I think if she's used to skis in the 150-160 range, they'll probably be just fine, especially if she'll be in the trees most of the time. If she wants something for going fast in open bowls or super deep or something, she'd probably want something longer, but you could always go for just a big really fat ski for that. Normally I'd say she should demo them to figure out what's best, but a deal's a deal - and I've thought I'd like the same ski in different lengths for different purposes. Since they're in the range of what she normally skis, I'd go with it...

    Hope that helps!

Thanks much, Altagirl. We'll stay with the 153s then. She did ski the 165 Pocket Rocket several days last winter (heli-skiing and touring). She generally loved the feeling of the ski, but ultimately decided that 165 was just too much. She wishes they'd make it in a 158 or so.

Anyway, now to see to getting some Diamir Freerides and skins...

    Thanks again - Mike.
