Bart searches the debris pile of a gnarly roof-alanche while I did a beacon/probe search. Nobody was buried, but you never know when an innocent barbecue/beer festival will go bad. Be careful out there!

Rootin and tootin it is pukin. This morning was good but need more terrain access. Tomorrow if it keeps coming down should be great and it seems like things may FINALLY be lining up for a late season bonanza. Let's all be safe out there.
Everybody complains about lack of snow and the sketchy conditions this season but when all is said and done we are going to be damn close to 500" and we are disappointed, go figure.

I havent been disappointed once this season, though i primarily ski inbounds so the sketch snowpack wasnt a factor...

Lost BD Verdict with FT12 in Argenta, healthy WY beer ransom offered
Tagged a stump in the middle 1/3rd of Argenta today. Snapped the ankle and point released around where I fell. Nothing too substantial, but enough to bury the ski. Ended up outing myself on one stick.
If you find the ski in Argenta I'd be very appreciative of its safe return.

This morning was amazing. Minimal sluffing on steep rollovers on north aspects, great turning on south aspects with no bottom felt when descending at 0930 this morning. Would have been a nice day to call in sick.

Most everything was skiing good early. By noon east aspects around 9,300 were getting a little heavy to ski. North trees skied well all day. Not much moving around except on steep north aspects. Got a 50 foot wide, 18 inch deep soft slab to go on a steep north facing shot that ran only around 200 feet on a 41-43 deg. slope. It was not a fast runner and was easily able to slip over to a small breakover and continue down the intended line. Good day in the wasatch.

Did a quick tour up in lower Broad's and Mill B. North and east facing skied well, but off north aspects were getting cooked pretty fast by the early afternoon.
No instabilities noted other than minor surface sluffing, but Bonkers and other NE facing upper Broads appeared to have a lot of wind loading. Overall a beautiful day to be in the mountains.

I actually had fun skiing the BC today. Stability seemed good, I wasn't worried about monster slides ripping to the ground, etc.
Ran into some dudes head up Stairs from the bottom with a 8:30 start
- I'm not sure if they were joking around with us or not..:

Got a little spooked thinking it would be a nice stable day in the BC today. Headed up Flagstaff in the morning and then across the Reed and Benson ridge on the way to Hallway. Winds were ripping and dumping a ton of snow in upper Days. Ducked behind a rock for a second and popped out to see this:

Slide looked to be over 2' in places and I know that it's a crappy picture, but clouds and 50mph gusts do not help my lack of skills. It appeared that there were two skiers and two sets of tracks. Looked like the second skier must have triggered it at a thinner rocky section since there were a few rocks poking through the bed surface. Saw two people moving in the woods below the debris pile and my partner called Alta central. Apparently the party had a partial burial but was recovered without injuries and proceeded out without assistance. Happy to hear that no one was hurt.
We headed over to Hallway, which was west facing and not wind loaded and skied beautifully and out through the tube.
Then headed up the east face of Cardiff and found this:
Looked like it went on a ski cut up to 18" deep. East facing and likely loaded up with the same winds as the Days slide. As I approached the crown I got a loud collapse and shooting crack, so there's a lot of energy stored in some of these pockets that could really ruin your day. Skied out Westerly facing Mineral fork without incident. Snow was heavy but stable and skied well.
