Headed up Baldy on a dawn patrol with Truth and this super cool ripping tele chica Shaun

    (Gnarwhales photo from Weds.)
Much warmer today with temps just below freezing at the Collins lot at 6:00 am light snow fell most of the morning winds were depositing snow on the west side of baldy shoulder.
Hastey hand pits revealed good to moderate bonding of recent snow and the early Octobers snow. Did get a 12-18" consolidated wind slab to easily pop with a clean shear on the old solid bed surface in a pit where we dropped into snowbird.
Turns ranged from pockets of nice thigh deep powder to character building wind scoured and gear thrashing dust on rocks.

I'm psyched to have Gnarwhale as the thread starter this year. I don't even know the guy, but I hear he's hudge on the internet.

I predict that come march when the snow is deep and stable and the lines are filled in, we'll be down to less than a post a day in here.

Two day old powder, with a slight zipper crust early at 10K in north facing trees, early this morning. It's probably turned to slop by now.

Got to about 11,000 ft, yesterday. Some areas were pretty bare...

    ...but still beautiful.

Hope this high pressure system gets out of the way. Snow on north-facing slopes above 9500 ft actually skied really well.

Found surprisingly decent turns today in recrystallized facets and sugar snow - N and NW facing around Alta. There were some icy rutted out sections here and there to keep one honest.

The pack seems pretty variable right now. We saw complete bullet proof hardpack, a sun crust with anywhere from 2 to 10 inches of of rotten crumbly sugar underneath, creamy mashed potatoes and dried up loud pow. Could get interesting out there with some significant loading.

High Pressure is out there come Wednesday. Forecast looks like things will be back to normal temps and some snow in the forecast for everyone out that way soon enough! I can't wait, 4 weeks till I'm headed out there. Prayin for tons of snow btw now and then. (But def alot when I do get there)

... you got's alot to learn about November in Utah If it ain't snowin' and is sunny, stone in LCC is orgasmic

unless of course you are running up hills, chasing chicas that wear leather gloves and toting microfleece scarves under their coats to tie both your wrists up on the first found tree stumps and then drop their pants and strap on the 9000 in an effort to sacrifice a young goat as yourself to ULLR

What's up with that event briefing...are these going to become regular pieces? Pretty cool hearing it from the hydrologist himself.
