    Urgent computer help neede asap

Yes i know this should probally be posted in techtalk, but im hoping i can get some help here faster.

Background info. I am running a 2 hard drive system Drive C: contains all of my program files etc, and the other hard drive, drive D: contains all of my photos.

Last week i had a problem with drive C: so i removed the other hard drive D: and then reformated drive C: and then reinstalled XPpro on drive C:

I then turned the computer back on and cheked that everything was working properly. Next I turned the computer off and reinstalled the second drive. This time windows automatically detected it and installed it as Drive E:

my folders on the drive containg the photos are set up in the following hiarchy:

Yearfolders /location sub folders/ athlete sub folders

everything seems to be ok, then when i went to check my images, all of my photos where there and in the correct files, except for my images from last year. In my file for last years photos i had it subfiled by location, and then in each location files i have additional files for each athletes last name. In this paticualr file i only have 1 of the location files even thou there should be 6, and then in the one location file that apears there is only one athlete file. the rest are completly missing. However every other file on the drive is ok.

Is there any reason why only one folder and its subfolders are missing, and is it possible to find hte missing data?

    hummm

Yes, I to have had empty folders and I have been like, "humm was this me or the disk?" Always have the raw elsewhere.

Back the disk up onto another drive (buy a new one) and try:
    Data Recovery Software

    Bummer dude

    folder options-> show hidden folders

they might just be hidden. That's all I can think of though, as there's no reason that one drive getting borked would effect an all-static data drive.

There are data recovery companies out there too. You ship them the drive and then recover any missing files. It's ridiculously expensive though. Drive Savers will probably charge you around $500.

Here's another place that may be cheaper:

I think you might of lost the data, but you could changing the drive letter back to D: and see if your files appear. If they do not I'm afraid you might of lost those files and would recommend not using that drive at all until you can get a data recovery program. If you continue using it you risk the possibility of writing over your now deleted files.

Sorry man that sucks and I think we have all been there once or twice. Just learn your lesson this the first time and ALWAYS backup your important data. CDRs (DVDs if you have a drive) are very cheap and possibly another harddrive would be my recommendations.

    Good Luck!!!!

Never buy at a big chain store

$94 for 120Gb drive and then demo a recovery program to see if you even find the files. Then pay $20-50 for the software. I think I've used Getdataback?
    Good luck MtBakerskier

I hate to say it but the most likely scenario to me is you accidently saved that year to your c: drive. The show hidden files could be a solution as mentioned. Doing a search for the files might turn them up. I'm not a computer whiz but I keep my data in a similar way by partitioning my c drive. I just aim My Documents to the other drive so there is no question that it's going there.

Have you run check disk yet? There could just be a problem with the FAT or something and the files are there, but can't be accessed.
