My replies are littered throughout those threads.

Feel free to hit me with a PM if you have any questions.

    I make this claim:
    If I don't know, I won't make it up.

If you get anywhere near Leysin, Switzerland, give a shout.
I ski Thursday - Monday every week.
Ok, maybe not everyday, but my schedule is open to do so.

God bless Greece and their policy to repatriate foreign nationals as painlessly as possible. they even promised that I could stay in the country for six months without being thrown in the military!

zermatt = beautiful landscape, mostly groomed slopes, german speaking guys
engelberg, verbier = freeride galore, lots of UK, scandi etc
small spots = ask lostinthetrees, ripzalot, teleal, they know a lot of striking hidden places

Zermatt has considerably more than just groomed spots, just not much of a freeride/off-piste scene. Therefore no competition for the goods. It is expensive and posh, especially the food. Totaly fricken gourgeous though. It was my favorite in CH.

    Some good Euro links:

Youth Hostelling (at least in Switzerland)
    http://www.youthhostel.ch/e/home.cfm
These are govt funded ones, and are usually very nice.
Private ones exist too. Find one and it will have the info on most of the rest.

    Weather data:
    http://www.eyesonsky.com/meteos.php

    Av Info:
    http://www.slf.ch/avalanche/rb82-dec.html

    Train Info:
    http://www.sbb.ch/en/index.htm
It's Swiss, but should work between major Euro cities too.

    EasyJet:
    http://easyjet.com/en/book/index.asp
They hub in Geneva, as well as UK, and fly all over Euro cheap.

    EasyJet Rent a Car:
    http://www.easyCar.com/aspx/nossl/default.aspx
    They also rent cars.

As for Ripzalot's private stash spots, I too offer the same personal approach. It is not so much for keeping them secret. It is more that too many factors play in to each place (visibility, distance/train access, town life, etc.)

There are of course the "can't go wrong" places like Verbier, Zermatt, Engleberg, Chamonix, etc. Given good snow, there is no regret in any of those places. All have good town life, which is important for someone coming over to visit (read party too).

I'd be pissed off if someone sent me to Super St. Bernard to ski, and then I learned it was nothing more than an exit off a long road, with a parking lot, 1 lift, and only 2 or 3 runs. But, if it was vacation week, snow excellent, vis good, and I was sick of competing in lift lines and for freshies, then SSB is the right place to be. If you didn't know the place, you might never ski through the tunnel and find the other huge bowl to ski, or even worse, you might ski the Italian side on your first run, go the 15km to the bottom, and then have to wait all day before the bus brought you back after the place closed. The personal approach is better for places like these. And there are more.
