Will it be snowy in the northeast?

I'm reading through some of the threads and reports and see that the western mountains are already enjoying snow and subsequent turns. This makes me very jealous...

So it got me thinking about the upcoming seaon in the northeast. The way the Atlantic has been producing tropical storms and hurricanes this fall, I'm wondering if that is any sign of things to come for the winter? Any correlation between an active tropical season and a strong winter storm season? Any meteorologists out there?

I've heard that there will be more precip than usual in the northeast. But will it be snow...or rain? Will we have a 4-ft dump in early December? Will it rain in January? Thoughts?

We've been having 70-deg days here in ME, and I'm ready for some of the cold weather to kick in!

I think you guys are going to be skiing on a half inch sheet of windswept ice. Once a week the resorts will sweep all of the ice shavings together along with the fake snow they blew over night in order to have a "powder day." Many Northeasterners will avoid the resorts on these "powder days" insisting that if they cannot see a smurf-like reflection when they look down, then the slope is likely unskiiable.

your comments remind me of the 4+ ft dump (of believe it or not...powder!)we had in December last year in Maine. Not too many knew what to do in it! Needless to say, lots o faceplants were seen. The straightline is not a commonly used word over here.

Fond memories. I remember skiing Sunday River December 7th with 41" of snow on my brand new Sugar Daddies. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to ski them that early in New England.

Yes, it will snow, the Red Sox will not win the series, Kerry will just barely take the White House, somebody famous will die, the shit will get deeper in the Middle East, Dylan will release a new CD, and Benny will have sex with two asian girls in a hot tub at the base of Jackson Hole.

Hey there is something to be said for skiing on nothing bulletproof ice, and that is...

    it's fakking scary as hell!

Either way though, it's still ski-able ...and I'm just pretty stoked to be getting out there very soon and skiing on something .

Now wouldn't it be nice if every girl was this easy to please?

only real skiers ski ice (or those too dumb to move). I hope it goes off here this winter, and I have a feeling it will.

Of course it will snow in the east, followed by 2" of rain and then a week of negative 20 temps - all before the end of January.
why make ten turns when you only need to make NONE!

Seriously though, does anybody know of meteorological correlation between an active atlantic hurricane season and the following winter?

Try this. It's one of the best weather forums in the country and most everybody on it is from the northeast. There are some great pro mets who post on there regularly. There has been quite a bit of talk about the upcoming winter recently.

I haven't read any internal memos that our staff will generate on long term winter predictions but someone had told me heavy hurricane activity usually means mild winters. I don't know if this is true and I'm currently trying to pretend I didn't hear this.

Well at least this means the weekend warriors will get a chance to enjoy the fresh. I'm currently booking a hotel and I will hold you to this prediction.
