I'm still on board, might have another pair of hands with me as well.

Either way I will bring a brush cutter, some loppers, pole handsaw. Anything else? I got tons of tools.

A machete would be good if you've got one. They seem to make quicker work of the small, poke-you-in-the-eye branches.

Woot WOOOOOOOOT! That's right, it's that time again boys and girls!

Work has begun on new stuff at Magic. Bigger, better stuff. The snapple of skiing, if you will. Heading up this weekend- Saturday has a chance of scattered T-storms, but Sunday looks TITS for some hiking and cleanup. Anybody else interested in doing some hiking and brush-whoopin'? Guaranteed to get you stoked for next season!

Let me know, all we really need is hands to drag stuff around.

Dammit. I've been waiting for a Magic work day since I first skied the place last winter and now when they start up, I'm about to leave for a few weeks. Oh well, I trust some brush will be still around when I get back.

Hrm... I think I can make it this Saturday.

Lemme know what kind of tools & equipment are needed so I can get shit together. Gonna have to hit the army/navy store and grab a hammock & bug net so I don't have to sleep in the car if it's nice out.

Nice! I'm ready to camp, got mah stuffs all ready. Shouldn't need much if anything, as we're going to be mostly moving stuff that's already down. I've got tons of extra stuff floating around too- machetes, saws and all that jazz for like 3 or 4 people so no stress. Hit me up and let me know when you're coming & going for possibility of carpoolery.

If you're trying to assemble a kit for yourself, I give the following 3 recommendations... You literally need nothing else except maybe a light saber or minigun.

http://www.coldsteel.com/twohama.html (army navy in west side has a whole pile of them for $20 each)

    http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Yar...opper-Titanium (Lowe's has them for ~$50)

http://www.stihldealer.net/productde...tprods-62.aspx (Acres Power equipment in East Longmeadow near me has them, but something like it will work too)

Posted this in the Magic Stoke thread last week as there was some talk about doing soemthing in July:

I'm planning on getting up to VT in the next 3 weeks to do a whirlwind tour of some properties for a few days. Post up dates when cutting and clearing crews are needed, I'd love to throw some sweat down for a day. I've got a chainsaw, pruners, big trailer I could tow up there if needed. I'm still mapping out properties I want to look at so I can minimize drive time and maximize walk thrus. Morrisville/Morristown area, Hyde Park, Cambridge/Jeff area are on the list.

    Post up any future dates.

Werd. Will text/call on Thurs & let you know what the deal is.

Dude - do me a solid & grab one of those machete's for me if you happen to be near the store? I hit up a bunch of the army/navy stores in the city this morning and they don't carry big blades & I'll be damned if I know where the old US Army one I had as a kid went. If they have a sheath for it, grab that too - I'll pay you back when I see you.

Those loppers are FUCKING SICK. I thought the pair that I have were pretty dope until I saw those. Smaller & stronger than what I've got.

Also been having trouble finding a cheap surplus hammock & bug net. It looks like most army/navy stores have fallen out of the surplus business. Lots of military style shit, but nothing is the real deal. I know if I can find a decent shop I can snag a hammock & bug net for like $30. Lemme know if you've got any leads. I've got a big tent that's too much of a PITA to setup for one night, and it's just not worth buying a single tent. I'm figuring a hammock with bug net will be like luxury accomodations for 1.

Edit: Might have a line on one of these - checking to see if I can get it before the weekend:

Those loppers are fucking sweet looking! I saw some decent ones that had telescoping handles, which seems useful but those just look like the trees would run away in fear.

Welp, looks like there is no way I can get the hammock from that source in time for the weekend.

If anyone knows a spot (live in Southwest CT & am in NYC daily) where I can grab something similar, please let me know. Or if you've got a pretty simple 1 man tent that I can borrow for the weekend, that'd be awesome too.

Worst case I may have to goto Walmart and buy some POS tent.

there are planned work days where the mountain management has specific projects that they would be stoked to have some volunteers to help them. check out the magic FB page or Website.

I assume BB will check in with the dates.

edit: dates per magicmtn.com September 24, October 8, and October 22.

I'll be there for the first one on 9/24. Got a new machete for my birthday that NEEDS to be broken in. Not much to chop down here in apartment-land.

I think I'm finally going to make it up this Saturday. I'm pretty excited. I've wanted to for a while but either there was summer controversy or I couldn't for some scheduling reason or another. i've got some loppers that need hazed, but if someone has an extra weedwhacker, I can do that too.

I'm in for Saturday. Blisters are all healed, sharpened up the Woodsman's Pal, might as well aim for the trifecta.

    Goniff,

We are going to be heading into the woods so loppers or swinging device are where its at. Quite honestly we don't want people slicing each others Achilles off with weed wackers and unless you've got a stihl fs 250 or above you are just going to work your machine way out of its element.
