OK. Time to expose myself to the mirth and ridicule (due to, among other things I have not yet imagined, the presence of 2, yes 2! pairs of Markers) I do so expect from this illustrious group. Here's my quivering quiver:

First, the long story. If anyone knows anything about the true origin of these I'd love to hear the story. I know there are a number if PITI out there, so let me know if you have beta.

173 Stone Island skis with Vist 614 (also branded 'Stone Island') and Speedlock plates. 117-66-101. It's my first experience with this cleverly engineered and very flexible binding system. The skis and binders came as a package.

Here's what I know. Apparently these were manufactured at the request and design of the european guy who owns the clothing companies 'Stone Island' and 'CP Company'. I stumbled across them on the interweb a year or so ago and jokingly asked my lovely and longsuffering wife (who's in the garment trade) to hook me up with a pair. Well, that's exactly what she did in celebration of my March birthday last year, apparently at considerable effort and expense, including a lengthy questionnaire about my and my skiing habits and abilities not to mention months of waiting for them to show up. I asked for and received the pair numbered '11' in a tip of the hat to Spinal Tap.

First instinct is to poohpooh such a 'vanity' ski, but I must say it's a pretty seriously built ride. Fast, damp, poppy, somewhat demanding of your attention and good fun hardpack ski. It also came with an extremely fine factory tune. Razor edges that don't seem to dull. Whatever. If you can enlighten me on the true story of these please let me know.

05/06 178 Goode Pash 80 wih Dynafit Comforts. 117-80-106. Featherlight, fun, torsionally solid set up. Edge grip is very good.

05/06 Scott Mission Santiago with Naxos. 128-89-115. My pick of the litter for all around fun. So far.

03/04 185 B3 with Naxos. 122-94-112. Nothing revelatory here.

05/06 201 Zag Freeride Gold with Tyrolia Railflex LD 12. 140-93-118.I wanted lots of flexibility as to where the mounting position ended up as there are a number of opinions. Think I finally found the right spot for me.

02/03 195 K2 Patriot GT6 with Marker M 9.2's. 103-65-91.

05/06 183 Lightningboard Lunar Landers 124-85-115. This particular pair has metal edges. Stiffest ski I've ever ridden. Not broken.

02/03 171 Atomic SL:11.12 with pre-Neox Atomic 412's.

Thanks! I think it's pretty close to being complete, but I'm sure something cool will come along soon enough.

The Santiago is a much more versatile ski. I'm a big fan. The B3 is softer including torsionally and has a longer turn radius. The Santiago carves like the dickens and floats great too. B3 for me is a more pure powder ski. Never have liked it on hard snow. I have heard the new Santiago is the same ski as before.

thanks, I've tried both and have had very similar feelings.... santiago's shovel is among the best I ever tried in midfats ... problem is, they're not cheap. B3 and fischer kehua/atua can easily be found for 200 euro, the mission never went below 380 euro

Check USA ebay. One pair of last year's 183's just sold for $300 with binders (lightly used ostensibly by the SLC rep?). Another pair of this year's 178's just sold for $350 brand new. I'd grab a pair of this year's 183's if I could find a deal.

The Axunn BC (185cm 125-90-110, Sandwich, full wood core, twin,solid ski, really solid under foot....very Mantra-ish, but more stable due to the overall flex and core thickness) they also make the Axunn FR (192cm,128-94-116, square tail, full wood, low profile tip, this would be the mag ski of choice for fast not super pow day)...cool companay based our of Chamrousse, FR. Hooked up with these on a somwhat boy deal.....feeling them so far.
