Thumbs down Shocking Revelation: Freeskier Magazine = stinking turd

So anyway, while reading the new issue of Freeskier in the local book store I had the startling realization that the magazine is a stinking turd desperately in need of flushing. Instead of finding Autumn stoke, I was bored into submission by page after page of clothing reviews and “fashion” photos. (I guess parentally spancered suburban youth need to know what jacket to wear.) For a second I thought I was “too old”, but after I wiping my ass with Freeskier I picked up the latest issue of Thrasher and was thoroughly entertained. Seriously, why would any advertiser support these kooks?

I need to know, am I walking the path of insightful—even if it is horrible delayed—righteousness or a bitter hater? Do I need to grow-up and realize that Freeskier, like the Wall Street Journal editorial page and “Friends”, will only piss me off and I should avoid looking at it or get all PETA on the magazine and form a one man picket line in front of their office?

You are definitely on the right track, Freeskier truly blows !

maybe I'm still prejudiced against them since they were at Silverton when I was there a couple years ago and they poached some lines I wanted to hit, yeah I hold a grudge

    DING-DING-DING!.....there's the winner.

You know it's going to suck, but you still find yourself perusing this trash...because maybe, just maybe you'll find a decent shot or article somewhere among the 2-page 'my built-in earphone adjustable jacket helps me kill 100 foot rail sections at the local elementary school' ads....but we've been through this before...............you won't.

So just pick-up the 'Stuff' mag and Kleenex and go home.

Did they at least have sexy photos of ski babes this year?

You buy Freeskier for the same reasons that you buy SKI or you date your buddy's chubby, horse-faced half-sister - because everything else (mags or girls) are used up, but you still want more.

That is the fahking truth right there. We all do it. The Nordica poster in the first issue this year wasn't bad though, eh?

..of Brad Holmes?? Sorry, dude... I can appreciate your lifestyle, but it ain't for me.

Actually, I thought the pic of the girl was fairly weak. She's definitely very cute (albeit way too young for my decrepid, pimpled ass), but something about the shot just wasn't attractive.

She's a big-mountain skier, right? God bless her for that. There aren't nearly enough of them.

Yeah, she's the offspring of the founder of Alta in some way or another. I guess you're right, it wasn't all that great after all. (My wife said I kinda look like Holmes.. )

Free pull outs are nice though

I slapped it up in my garage next to my Lange Girl and my coveted K2 "Extremely Different" poster - the one with Plake and Mahre; along with a zillion other posters. Freeze is another mag that is good for scoring posters for the garage.

I am actually friends with both the editor and art director of this mag. They gave me a couple coppies to review, and I had lunch with them to discuss what i thought. I gave them a watered down version of what you guys just said. There wasn't a single thing about skiing in there whole first issues. Tom's a cool guy and will listen to peoples opinion. Write them an email and state your disapointment. It's his first full year editing the mag and he wants to push the direction more towards... well skiing but the founder is caught up in this whole image and culture thing.

I don't think the mag is that bad....It's definitely got some gay shit in it, but those skier girls in this months issue is HOT! I can't believe those girls pose and play the "meat" game though, I'd think it'd offend them. I usaully look at a magazine for the pictures, and read anything that's ski news or humorous. Reading ski stories usaully just bores me cuz it's nothing like what happened and just some ski writer blowing his load all over the page like he's been taught to.

Freeskier is NOTHING like SKI, that mag is pure asswipe material, at least Freeskier has some cool things.....That brings me to the question.....

What DO you guys want from a ski magazine?

(btw-DT, after reading the latest Powder, I was really blown away. You guys put out some straight up quality shit, I could tell you guys really worked on it....thanks )

. . . but the founder is caught up in this whole image and culture thing.
    jeezus.

smart though on his part. seems like a lot of kids are into that these days, all about their steez and image. . .rather than deeds, pow days and big mtn moves. its not that culture doesn't have its place. its truly important. but the culture wouldn't exist without the deeds, the action.

i must agree with style now being more important (to me) than it used to be. air looks buttery these days. so smooth and fine tuned in the vids. defintely admire that.

def glad to see other mags besides powder pushing the big mtn jib thing.

Seriously. One of the best editions i've read in the last few years. Thanks, mang.

And finally someone's back on it with the hilarious photo captions. Missed that from the 90's. Used to always put me in stitches.

Everyone talks shit just like everyone takes shits.

And since everyone tastes are unique, so are the resultant odiferous outpourings.

Therefore, there should be a magazine called SHIT, where people just voice their opinions.
But I guesss it'd be kinda hard to find advertisers.

I dug the Stokli girl as well.

It's all about facade over substance these days, that's why Billy Crystal choose the bit about, "I'd rather look good than feel good any day!"

Well that and it's all about ball bearings too!

True, but not everyone does it in their professional arena.

Admittedly, that would be a good job, though.

It's really easy, just go to your user cp, then edit sig, then put[url=grantgunderson.com] then put whatever you want in the middle and then close the url
