    Long Trail beta

Gonna be a beautiful next few weeks. Where is the best day-hike section of the Long trail? I would like to hear around Stratton, 'cause it's close.

I've only hiked the portion of the Long Trail from Smuggler's Notch up to the summit of Mansfield but that's a good stretch - and the Taft Lodge is just up by timberline, a good spot to stay for the night if you're up for it. There's a bit of a scramble near the top but the hike is especially good for scoping out lines for the winter.

Tons of good stuff around the notch. If you have dogs a great hike is from the upper parking lot at Smuggs, up Black Snake to the top of Sterling, then around Sterling pond to elephants head and back down some of the other trails to the base of Smuggs. Great hike for the dogs because there will be no people on the ski trails and they can just go nuts. Round trip will be about 2.5-3 hours.

Should be a great couple of weeks up there. Not many places I'd rather be..

So. Vt Border to Styles peak is all nice. Past
that, there is a beautiful lake for swimming just north of Mt Tabor road.
The section Thru Sugarbush-MRG is very nice.
    Killington-Pico is no slouch either.

I'll be back, need to look at a map for some clarification.

Great beer. I suggest the Double Bag for optimal alcohol content.

Stop torturing me. But this place aint bad at all, especially now. Heaven for a roadie geek, and I bet on a few nags along the way. It's been a hell of a summer. But the Rockies rule. No, not those Rockies.

Might be in Summit once. Give you a PM if it happens. Jackson Hole definitely.

Thanx for the advise, everyone else. I still can't decide where to go this weekend. Hmmm, Long Trail, High Peaks, Lake George, ....
