i made the switch from the sidewinder sv to the alpha sv...
i did like the sw's collar better because it zipped lower and didn't pull the hood around your head as you did it...
i also liked the sw's front pockets... great access, huge, and good to rest your hands in on casual days...
i still decided to get an alpha sv because the sw was huge in the midsection, and the alpha has a much trimmer/more athletic fit... still love it and i'll be loving it for another 5-10 years... killer jacket...
Agreed, the sidewinder has a much roomier fit unlike most of the other Arcteryx jackets I've owned/tried on.
I'm usually somewhere between a medium and a large (skinny with long arms) but in the sidewinder the only jacket that fit my body was a small - of course the arms were then way too short (I'm 6'2 - 180lbs).
I've had a Stingray for the last 2 seasons and love it. It's done great for me in all conditions and it's been bomber. I snagged on a mountain mahogany on traverse and stopped so quick I was standing on the tails of my skis. When I finally got myself unstuck, there was a small, 2" gash that patched easily. The jacket did de-laminate under the armpit on me at the end of this past season, but Arc'teryx honored the warranty and I now have a nice new one.
Ive got the Theta AR, and I love it. Longer, more roomier fit and its tougher than hell and has pit zips. I wear it almost every day in the winter, and wear it hiking in the spring/summer when its raining. The thing is unstoppable.
Ive never tried eVent, but this is my first real nice hardshell and to me it breathes awesome. Oh, and its got pit-zips, which is nice for really hot folks like me.
