Yeah, but no matter what they do it's still flat, crowded, windy, bumped out and it never snows.

Huh? Are you talking about the one run they open or all of Abasin?

Exactly. It's hell on earth here. Ski Wisconsin!!
In fact... I think I'll sell that idea to Colorado Ski Country:

It was just an attempt to downplay Colorado. Some people just can't stand they live in a shitty state.

Anyways... this is good. Now I can give my bro crap that hes gonna have to actually start working soon.

I don't know what Lane is talking about and not sure why Board agreed but anyway just to give a comment on Abasin - they have the most spectacular crashes. I saw a lot of good crashes riding up the Palli lift last season. I mean people tumbling all the way down Pali Face. Never want to see anyone get hurt but it's always good entertainment.

There's some good skiing in Colorado, unfortunately only about 1% of the good skiing in the state is at any of the ski areas. The other 99% is out of bounds in avalanche prone terrain. Wait that sucks too, hmmmm let's see, the best thing about Colorado is that there are so many other people here that share in your misery.

The problem with most of the people who badmouth Colorado is that they ride the lifts at places like Keystone and Breck, but never explore. Theres lots of cool terrain if you know where to look and/or are willing to work. And those who badmouth A-basin, I doubt they can even back up what they say.

A-basin gets tracked out very quickly (read 2 hours), is TINY (read East Coast small), is windy, is icy when windy, has almost no treeskiing, has very short runs, and recieve an annual average snowfall 100 inches under their annual average. I'm talking inbounds here.

Nonetheless, if they open first, I will be there.

Its a no BS mountain, its steep, its fairly cheap, isn't as crowded as other areas, its laid back, and it has quite a bit of tree skiing for those that don't like the wide open top if you can ski steep fairly tight trees. And when we ain't dying of drought and they get good snow have a season lasting till July.

Only time I don't like it there is in flat light conditions. lol

At least it snows in CO more than once every 5 years... (and is above 13 feet of elevation).

    Red face

A-Basin Flat?????? Where????Oh, yeah. They have a beginner run or two. you know, the last time I was standing at the top of Pallavicini, I was looking at all those HUGE flat bumps and watching people fall and tumble for hundreds of feet which is really hard to do where its so FLAT!!! The last day I skied there last season in June there was so much snow in spots I was up to my knees - but I guess it never snows there either! I've been a little irritated that it has snowed everytime I've been there - sucks to be able to drive there in two hours!

There are so many bad things about A-Basin that, really, no one should even go there from out of state. I mean, they have cheaper food and drinks than any other resort I've been to, the coolest lifties around, cheap lift tickets, free parking, constant entertainment in the parking lots from March on, huge powder stashes that you need only traverse to, the longest, steepest bump run I've ever had the pleasure of skiing, and plenty of tree skiing and hucking possibilities if you know where to look. The best part is, it's not a zoo like everywhere else can be on holidays and weekends. Anyway, flat is good. Blues are good. Blacks and Doubles are good. We're all just out there trying to have the best day of our lives.....

I'll be ruing the day I moved to CO as I'm skiing there mid-october and again in July. ho hum. Another shitty day in Paradise.

A Basin ain't spectacular, but the day I skied there (even though shit was pretty scraped off and not really fun to ski all the bumps with semi-non-bump-friendly B3's) was pretty cool. Looks like with a bit of coverage they would have quite a bit to offer. Pallavicini chair was plenty challenging for me. And whatever chute it was on lookers left up from Pallavicini looked pretty appetizing, provided that you don't slam yourself on the rock walls.

I'll vouch for the place. Definitely a good value. And MUCH better terrain than shitstone and most of Breck.

Then again, I don't live there...

I can't believe the Basin getting so beat up in here. It's no Squaw, but I've had some spectacular days there. It's all in where you look....

    CO does not suck

I used to be one of those pricks that bad mouthed CO because of the "image" I used to think it had - this was before I had ever skied at any of their ski areas or actually got off the main highways/interstates. Then I spent 3 seasons in a row at WP/MJ. I also hit A-Basin occasionally and some bc in between -along with some other resorts. It completely changed my view of CO. You just gotta know where you're going.

So what's the story with shuttin' down the Beach at A-Basin for over night car camping? That was the only way I was ever able to ski A-Basin coming from where I live.

If you want to hear my view, get your lazy ass out to ski in colorado this winter. I'll show you guys terrain to make you scared, or whatever you want. I've said it before and I'll say it again, in-bounds skiing sucks, whether you're at A-basin or Kirkwood, it doesn't really matter.

See!?!?! That's why I ski Loveland. Nobody even TALKS about it!

But yeah, Colorado DOES suck. I will never forgive the powers that be for closing Ski Broadmoor.

Vandalism that was happening. Employees would get there and find trash cans burned and things trashed. Got sick of having to clean up after dumbass people who wouldn't pick up after themselves. So easy solution is tell people they can't camp anymore.

one more pic (didn't take this one) I like of one of those short flat runs.
