I've had great days there too, but there are many many places I would rather ski. For being a western mountain there isn't much terrain (come on people) and it doesn't get consistent snow. Cool vibe, but I get bored there, especially with no new snow.

BC is mucho work. Very challenging, but mucho work. I prefer to rack up more vert per day. I do see a day when I probably won't agree with that though. MTB is for up (and down) and ski is for down...for me...

    Sorry! More FLAT abasin pics...

Notice all the flat glades and cornice...

I guess everything might look flat with your face in the snow...

You know, if CO resorts open earlier than usual, that means the delivery date of the Bro Models needs to be modified. I want these bad boys for opening day! (I'm just playing... I know you guys wanna make the best skis possible.)

These pictures make a poor argument in favor of A Basin. Steep or not, all I see is tracked out bump runs. Come to think of it, that's all I see when I go there too.

A Basin has its merits, but there is far better inbounds to be had in Colorado. Places that have a similar appeal, minus the risk of destroying your bases.

That's what I keep hearing! Hmmmm . . . I wonder if that's why I'm the only one stopping there in the morning, while everyone else continues on through the tunnel to the other flat, overrated pieces of shit? Fine by me!

Pallavicini chair was plenty challenging for me. And whatever chute it was on lookers left up from Pallavicini looked pretty appetizing, provided that you don't slam yourself on the rock walls.

I'll vouch for the place. Definitely a good value. And MUCH better terrain than shitstone and most of Breck.

    [/QUOTE]

You don't play golf with only just one club, why only have one pair of skis in your quiver, especially when the beach is right next to Pali?

If you're talking gunners right of the Pali chair, that's called dud chute,& next to it is West Turbo,Ever been to Gauthier? The Pali chair may only have 1300 ' vert, but it is sustained for the most part.

For those that don't think the terrain is worthy,They have a race there called the Enduro;10 hours non stop on the Pali chair. The record is 68 runs in that time. It's over 5 mins up on the lift ,you do the math. When you can surpass that # then you get to say whatever you want.

As far as snow conditions go,Hey that's Colorado, any place that's steep is bumped out quickly. For good portions of March & April 03 there was nary a bump in sight.

if you want more,Right next to the Alleys OB are the Steep Gullies,Bigger versions of the Baldy chutes at Alta,go get ye some!

    Thumbs up

I'd gladly ski only the Palli lift all year long. I can think of no other way to get my self back into shape and have a little fun doing it. I had a day a few years back, I must have skied that 2nd alley for 3 hours straight. It was a spring day, pefect corny soft bumps. All day. I guess I'm easily pleased. No problem here.

I've NEVER had a bad day at the basin. I love that place. I agree that it's small (only 475 acres) but it's unique in that it skis larger than it is. The entire mountain is skiable terrain, and there's alot of different gullies and fall lines, not just 475 acres of the same shit. There's more different lines to ski on that small hill than on much larger areas.

Plus I love the breakfasts at the lodge and the hippie espresso cart. Y'all are just a bunch of haters.

Set 'em straight Homie ! This is season 14 with a pass there,So I can't say I haven't had a bad day there. The drought has changed my skiing patterns as well. From 90-97 it was very different.
Nobody has really mentioned that there's tons of easy access back country there.Maybe I shouldn't either!
For now,say what you want from the saftey of your P.C. ,but at the Summits ,you better be doing it bigger ,better & faster than anyone else!

I love absolutely useless posts like this.

I didn't know the Summits were competitions. Guess I better stay home unless I can keep up, huh?

Well, I like large women and I usually do my business pretty fast under the covers, so I figure I got two out of three for the summit. The better part could give me some trouble though.
Charlie, here comes the deuce. And when you speak of me, speak well.

....late, it all just dripped out my ears.

The only thing I don't like about A-Basin is that you need oxygen just to walk across the parking lot. By the time you get to the lodge carrying all your shit those ten stairs up look like Everest.

    um, no thanks.

But you're right about the sea level thang, going straight from sea level to Denver to A-Basin in the same day, that's quite a change.

dude, you shouldn't laugh. don't you know that the drought has caused a shortage of subtlety, sarcasm, and nuance in some areas of colorado? they can't help but react that way.

Actually the subtlety, sarcasm and nuance drought has hit most of the country, with the exception of parts of the east coast.
