I've skied the Karma. I liked the ski, but, as was mentioned above, it's not an exceptional ski. It is super easy to ski. And it's pleasant. But the Karma is not nearly as powerful as my G4/AX4's are. Like most multipurpose products, the Karma does a lot of things good (well), but not any one thing great. On the bright side, the Karma doesn't do anything bad either.
Considering your stated purpose and where you do most of your skiing, I think you would really like the Karma. Also, when you do ski out west, you won't be disappointed.
Now, if you were buying two pair of skis . . . .
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
