    Thumbs up 56k nerds - double time....march!!

Got no access to adsl or cable and I've been having trouble with very slow connection speeds on my 56K dialup lately (~12Kbps) so I phoned my ISP. Kind fellow there said sorry, not their problem but suggested I follow the link below and add the appropriate initialization sting to my modem setup.

So holy shit this guy is my hero now. My home connection now hooks up at a smoking 115Kbps. It is so much faster than ever it blew me away. Those TGR BB ski porn pics'll be much less painful to wait for. I heart tech support.

How do you find out what modem you have if it is internal?

I'm no tech support dude but IT guy here says you might have to find out what motherboard you have and look that up on the manufacturers website to trace out what type of modem it uses. Mine is internal but not built in so I just drilled into the device manager - modem window to find it out and then add the init string. Working tirelessly to up the skiporn stokage, PS.

How about go to control panel > system > hardware > device manager and click on the modem. This is for Windows 2K, probably slightly different for XP.

Umm, hate to break it to you, but there's no way you're connecting at 115kbps over any kind of standard phone line; it's just not possible.

Hell, phone lines can't even handle 56k fully. I bet you are connecting faster than before, but that the string you typed in just defaulted the display back to 115k...

I am also crushed but still happy with my results. I got the same word as RB's from my IT guy today that it's not really connecting at the displayed speed but I'll tell you I've never seen my net load stuff up this fast before. I was on some of the threads with stoke images on them last night and it was amazingly satisfying seeing them load so quick. Seems like it's on the order of at least 1.5 times faster real transfer rate than I've ever seen previously at home.
