    Question Administering/Judging/Dealing with Scholarships

It may have just fallen in my lap to chair a committee whose job is to set up a scholarship with a chunk of change our department just landed.

I have to figure out how to publicise, administer, judge, and disburse all this dough. I don't have a clue where to start.

I know it's a long shot, but the diversity on here made me think that someone, somewhere, knew something about this.

    Anyone?

This is a political morass, so be sure to understand the priorities of your senior faculty and grantor. Hopefully, some of your own values are common. Spend some time thinking about this.

With these priorities in mind, develop a framework for acheivement that reflects these priorities. Make sure that there is demonstrable correlation to the fundamental priorities.

Think 6-sigma: The definitions should be clear, measureable and provide feedback. DMAIC I think it's called.

Aside from the fact that your campus should have a dean or other official who does this for a job, is this a sustaining trust or are you looking to distribute the principal?

Buster, yes. I've thought about that. There is a conflict-of-interest nightmare that I'm not really ready to deal with, either. Trying to quantify things like an essay response is challenging at best.

Rusty, I've always supposed it was a sustained trust, but it could be that we're distributing the principal until it's gone.

I suppose you could, uh, reccommend a good lawyer to set up the trust, eh?

The loot was given to an institute that I work with which is affiliated with the shool, but just in name, really. The school only handles scholarships when they get to handle the principal themselves, obviously.

[hijack] I find it pleasantly distressing that I fondly recall the post and thread from whence Cornholio's signature was born. Damn, that was funny. [/hijack]

Sick and ashamed and happy (and just make sure the money goes to someone who wishes to pretend to be an architect),
