So what's the verdict on DSR? Worth a day trip? Looks like tomorrow's out, but next weekend might play.

Spent my second Saturday at DSR today. There was a lot of new snow for sure this week but net coverage is down from last week. More bushes and obstacles were poking up.

I saw Dookie hit a submerged stump today that broke a pole instead of a leg. G2A Jr also tagged a submerged stump. I managed to find rocks in places I did not find them last weekend. So off piste skiing is getting less sure. With a bit of snow farming, things may last on groomers for another week or two.

DSR tree skiing in May = wack!

basically the snow dribbling from the trees created a quicksand like texture that sucked at your skis like a tweakin' whore's off-kilter BJ.

as G2A mentioned, I snapped a pole on a submerged log...lucky it was just the pole and not my ankle, knee or leg!

other'n that some freshies were to be had and a good day enjoyed. we just might have to make DSR an annual gathering: Turx, Cinders, Vets, MJ, Unpossible, G2A + Son of G2A, LongShortLong, and Jla415, plus a couple of non-maggots were all in fine form.

as for DSR's schedule, the word I heard buzzing around the resort is that this is the last weekend as the owner's are headed to AK for vacay.

might wish to confirm this before trekking up next weekend.

The morning at DSR was pretty damn fun, the mountain was empty and we had first tracks in some wind packed powder all over the mountain. There was even a powder lineup at one of the chairs as it didn't open immediately. In the afternoon the snow got heavy, but we kept going until the end. DSR could be a decent early/late season destination. Definitely worth the trip and visit for some May 29th powder. Will post some pics later. Nice to meet you jla415, Turx, Cinders, and LongShortLong.

Sounds like Squaw was pretty fun today, any first hand accounts (conditions? crowds?)? I know T-Boz was there, unofficialsquaw snapped a nice picture of him in the Palisades. I was supposed to stay up in Tahoe and hit Squaw on Sunday, but my ride informed me of last minute changes to our plans in the DSR parking lot, so I'm back in the Bay Area.

Anyone in the BA thinking of doing a day trip to Squaw tomorrow and has room for one more? I've got gas money ready and waiting.

Hitting SV tomorrow, staying at villages (cheep if you ask them nice), then DSR monday.

Share ride from east bay if anyone needs it. Drinks on me at PJ around 7, bright green Westcomb and a few bottles of Turley I just found.

    Splat, you around??

Hit Levitt Peak off of Sonora Pass yesterday with Enginerd, Lightranger, Ottime, Schralph and Kael.

Top notch conditions - untracked powder and it didn't really warm until mid afternoon. We were the 1st people on the summit and collectively skied the entire bowl and both couloirs from the summit. I even got a legitimate face shot.

One of my personal favorite BC days of the year.

In retrospect, Red Slate would have been sick yesterday. Anything really high up (e.g., above 10K) and N facing was the goods. Prob going to go to shite quick today with warmer temps, though.

Heading to fly fish the lower Sac by Shasta for the rest of the weekend.

TR, etc... to come after the weekend.

    Squaw May 29, 2010

The coverage is insane. My last run was beautiful long untracked corn top to almost bottom. Hiked from Shirley to the Palisades:

Palisades > Reverse Traverse > Garbage Chute > North Bowl > Hogs Back > cut high to bottom of Headwall Face > CII Bowl > fini

I'd be out there now except I have to work today.
Maybe I'll hike/skin Rose on Monday and see some fellow maggots.

Nice to put a name with a screen name. I've got a few pics to share. Some of it was crap on my camera, but I'll see if there is anything good.

Sonora was the goods up top. Powerhouse was a different kind of goods today. Planning to hit DSR tomorrow to rest the legs.

sorry I didn't respond to PM's a couple days last week, guys - we had friends in town, and I was nowhere near the confuser

sorry I missed the crew at Sonora Pass - we had the big family movie happening - moms and dads swapped kid duty on Sat, so we all got some roadside laps - Owen ripped it up! - Sunday I was Mr.telemom - kept the kids at the Baker campground with me while the girls and Sweet Lou (who?) toured for some truns - a very fun weekend

now I'm off to work the furthurmore show tonight

anyone want to go to SP on Wed?

Slim and I hit up a wet lap on far skier's left on Carson Spur, then I ran up to hit the Wall from the Cirque summit. Smooth but a little slow.

There must have some sort of weird inversion last night, because the top of the Cross was much soupier and mankier than the chutes below it.

If anyone finds a single Dynafit brake in there, let me know

booted two laps in the chutes today @ rose.
the early clouds and later wind really kept the corn poppin.
The coverage is still stellar all the way down.

Ok so I feel rediculous even asking this, but is there still a snowpack at lake level? I was going to head up this week to climb the eagle creek canyon area(emerald bay) 90 foot wall, mayhem cove etc...Big chief, and was even thinking donner summit but that looks no go.

I guess my question is what is the snowpack at the lake, has anyone roped up for some spring climbing.

    What a spring, damn, awesome

I'm not sure about most of the spots you are talking about but I saw lots of people climbing the east facing rocks along hwy 40 above donner lake on sunday afternoon so I assume that one is good to go

Anyone make it up to Tioga this weekend? I am considering a midweek trip after the new snow settles, but before it turns to summer next weekend.

Mammoth was a blast. It froze last night, so I could have slept in an extra two hours. Had my most memorable Memorial Day barbeque ever when some locals invited me to one at 11,000 feet.

If that's the climbing area about 1/2 a mile up the hill from the parking lot, up to the right above the bridge, I hiked up there back in the first week of May and there was some snow on the trail down low in the shade, but the wall was clear.
