still some fine skiing left in the CP area.
Managed to find a 1000' fall line east-facing shot above crater lake area that was still pretty dang smoove for this time of year. Upper third was hardly suncupped at all. There are some decent patches dropping into crater lake but I don't think anything you can string together without walking to get down to the lake. Found myself standing above a waterfall going, "well, I guess that one doesn't go" and having to climb back out
skeeter hatch is starting ... it was damn hot yesterday.

You prolly all got the same Kwood email.
But just to make the UT Maggots jealous, here are the details.
(Originally, they were supposed to be open Fri-Sun, and have some kind of "all comers" race. I see no mention of it here...)

It sounds like it's all "hike to" with nothing to ski directly off of 6. Unloading should be a laugh!JULY 4TH SKIING/RIDING UPDATE!
Lift access for skiing/riding will be available this Fourth of July Weekend! Skiers/riders will access the snow of Thunder Saddle, the Wall, and Sentinel Bowl by hiking along ridges (over dirt) before descent.
Hiking shoes are recommended.
Be ready for expert terrain (obstacles will exist; no beginner or intermediate runs available).
The ridge hike from the top of Chair 6 to the Wall is about 35 minutes. At snow's end, click out and walk 10 minutes back to the base of Chair 6.
Sentinel Bowl is a 15 minute walk from the top of "6" with a 10 minute walk at the bottom. Round trip runs: 35 to 60 minutes.
Do any of you Kweed Mags know what kind of coverage is left?
...Remember, those who think Global Warming is Fake, also think that Adam & Eve were Real...
^ haven't been there within the last 2 weeks Turx, but man I hope they groom that stuff before the weekend because some of the snow lower down has been getting really bumpy. I don't think there is any continuous strip of snow left under Chair 2 - there was only one meandering line 2 weeks ago but it's probably all patches now unless they pushed it around.

Yeah...its fairly burned out at the bottom. You will definitely have to walk a little ways to the lift off of 6. Chair 1 and 2...there's basically no snow. You would only use those to hike to vista I'd imagine. Its not like its going to be a normal ski day. Not even close.
It's the "Avalanche Cup"...this is taken from a post today on KW's Facebook page:
"Here's the scoop on the Avalanche Cup:
Sunday morning July 4 at 9:30am in Turkey Chute (lower Cirque, chairs 1 and 2 open at 8am for the race). Experts only; gates and timing will be used. Registration $10 - sign up at the Summer HQ on Saturday or early Sunday. 1st place finisher receives 2010/11 6Wood season pass, 2nd and 3rd place re...ceive 2 tickets for use during winter 2010/11. Swag for finishers.

One of the only weekends I can honestly say that Northstar is going to be way funner than Kirkwood.
Have fun hiking to beat up patches of snow![]()
Hello darkness my old friend
Ah, nay sayers. the wood is gonna rock, ya'll.
Anyway, I'll be up visiting with friends and slaying some sun cups.
Big question - should I tour on Saturday morning or watch Argentina v Germany and start with the beers early - then do a few hikes to Thunder Saddle...
And which one is Turkey Chute??
Ummmm, no brainer. Argentina vs. Germany yo! The snow is going to be the same all day long - unfrozen mash. Ski the wrens. Oh yeah, Turkey chute is looker's left of Kodak I think ... I guess it would be the one under Turkey Point.

Anyone have any background intel on the Transit Center (AKA Bus Station) going in at 64 Acres?
I'll be schlepping around the 'wood. Sneakers or hiking boots, and how to carry them while skiing? Also, just in case, I'm binging the mountain bike and a freshly minted Tahoe Card voucher to get it up the mountain. Bikes on lifts goes completely against my nature, but I'll try it once, it might be fun.
Anyone been up Barker way?
"The mind, once expanded to the dimensions of larger ideas, never returns to its original size."
LSL. I'll see you out and about. Gonna go out and poke around between the games, and again this afternoon.
Spur is burnt, but Thunder Bowl has potential. Might even head out toward Emigrant this afternoon.
Funny thing. I went to the Inn to each the 2nd half of German Engineering dismantal Argentina, and as I walked in.... The power went out. Came back on in ten minutes, but flickered again a bit later. I thinkthe entire valley went down, and I heard the lifts stopped. Got to love the Wood. And this time, I don't think it is Cohee's fault.
FKNA. You should be easy to spot.
All The Way, goes all the way, to where the Drain splits at the exit.
Thunder Saddle, OTOH, looks like a long hike out.
seems like the saddle would be good to session for a while before the bike out. you brought you bike right?
Gdjgb,
Were you finishing up around 10:15? I was at the top and saw somebody skiing out. The right hand chute(from the picture) had better snow than the further left chute but both were fun for July 3rd. I sent you a pm.
Any Lassen reports? I think the good skiing in Tahoe might be done and it is time to ride the bike full time or head north. IMHO.
Twenty-Five Dollars and a six-pack to my name
I was skiing in Yosemite last week. There was plenty there in case KW is a bust.
Here's my report from a week ago:

And here's another guy from the same weekend (more action in his report):
[ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195336"]TR. It's Summer, lets ski a volcano: Lassen June 26, 27th. - Teton Gravity Research Forums[/ame]
I would not say Tahoe is completely burnt. Skied HYG at Alpine today and it was freaking awesome for July 4th. Another friend skied the pass at Rose and said the same. Lassen is definitely worth the trip.
Fun at the Wood today. Typical powder day. Full corral and the lift was on hold. Once it got turning there were loads of folks out on the hill. Now if they had only plowed out the old terrain park, it could have been epic.
Oh yeah, and Ski School still goes.
Fun 4th of July weekend at Squaw....
Rode The Roof on Emigrant peak
Then hit National Chute in the Palisades
Then over to North Bowl
Pretty awesome snow for 4th of July weekend!
ok... it's official, I suck at the interwebz, didn't get online all weekend. However, I did attend KMPUD's public meeting where they discussed the status of various power plans. I'll organize my thoughts and post details later today. They need our help. [ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2910098"]Thread here.[/ame]
Skiing was good, though thunder saddle hikes were a bit long.
