Did a couple laps with Vets on Thursday. My son (Hux et Veritas) wanted to do a little BC intro trip before he leaves for Israel on Tuesday. We brought along one of his school friends (Ben), the friend's dad (Dan) and stayed with some friends who moved to Arnold a few years ago. Their son (also Ben) came too.
We met up with Vets at the top of Ebbets Pass at 9:00am and dropped a car a short way down the road (east) so we could do a partial car shuttle.
Ben, Hux et Veritas, Ben and Dan, ready to go:

We hiked up the south side of the road, across from Ebbets Peak. The crew hiking (me on right):

Me and Vets at the top, looking out toward Kinney Reservoir. We would ski from her down to that field we're facing, then left out to the road.

Me and Hux et Veritas ready to go. The chutes over out shoulders look pretty nice, but if you took that line, you'd have to walk out a little to get back over to the snow that takes you to the road.

Hux et Veritas spraying some snow:

Vets catches credit card air coming over the edge:

Vets with Kinney in the background:

The snow goes all the way to the road. We had to pick our way through, but didn't need to remove our skis:

We took a short drive down to the reservoir to scope out our line for our second lap. I'm pointing out potential lines to Vets (we ended up doing the two larger V shaped gullies below the large rock peak):
Hux at the top, under the large rock peak. Pretty smooth snow.

Vets through the trees, about 1/2 way down to the reservoir:

Hux at the bottom. There's still a little ice on the lake. We opted to skip the pond skimming.

There were a couple of small stream crossings on the hike out around the north side of the reservoir. I opted for the dry way over the one larger/deeper crossing:

Vets was more brave/stupid than me:

Closer view of what we skied:

All in all, it was a pleasant, albeit short day. A good intro to the whole concept of BC for the boys, plus the partial car shuttle eliminated roughly 1/3-1/2 of the vertical hiking.
Highland Lakes Rd wasn't open all the way, although if you had a high-clearance 4WD you might make it. I made it part way in my Honda Pilot, but was routinely bottoming out on the snow crossings. The crew in the car was very surprised I made it as far as I did.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.
