The only place i can think of that sells skis is Paragon, it is on 18th, i forget which avenue but just north of union square.
As for tuning, you could look up a princeton ski shop but i dont think i would let one of those dumb bastards touch my skis.
I dont remember ever running into a ski shop in manhattan but searching the internet might help you out.

what he ^ said and the scandinavian ski shop is one of the better places as far as tuning, mounting & etc. they're relocating so they'll be open sometime later this month.
i've got two boxes for skis, not sure if you need them to accomodate bindings though.
go to Heino's Ski and Cycle in New Jersey. best tuneups in the area. forget about princeton.... don't ever go there for ANYTHING. the address for Heinos' is:
65 Route 23
Pequannock, NJ
(973) 696-3044
They will be more than happy to help you out with anything you need there.
o yea, and you can probably even ask them at Heino's if they have any extra boxes laying around for you to ship your skis out.
Another vote for Heino's (especially for boot fitting).
If you don't have a car, you're stuck with Paragon and Princeton (I've only bought nickel and dime crap like wax there). Haven't been to Scandinavian, but it has a better rep than the other two.
if you're willing to go to jersey then try these guys out:

i've gone to their shop at little silver to get some wide brakes and getting some explosivs mounted. ask for the manager, chris or something.
Just another vote NEVER to go to princeton...they SUCK!!!!!
scandanavian is pretty cool. got a pretty cool trade show there.
like pow day said and i second this Princeton sucks.
brave new world is also kinda cool.
but never went there for skis though, went there for some surfboards. they got good customer service. I recommend it on basis of good customer service, but dont know how good ski shop is.
heh.. no good shops in the city.. depends on what you're looking for - buying stuff or having shop work done. ive been generous w/ the cervesa at princeton and they hook me up. you should talk to me though.. a friend of mine is setting up a pro shop of sorts in cooper square to run his guide business out of. should have the shop up and going in a few weeks if you're looking for tuning.
yea I'm just thinking about tuning and getting some mounting done. Snorkel keep me posted with whats going on with your buddy's shop
Yes, what snorkel said about Princeton. I'd avoid Paragon like the plague--arrogant, idiot shop types, and overpriced gear. Scandinavian, the one time I was in there trying to get something done, had a bootfitter who didn't understand the concept of half-sizes for liners.
Princeton, though, sometimes has some pretty good deals. I got Rossi GS skis there (years ago) for about $300 (in May or June), and some Head Supercrosses for about the same (summer, again). The manager will sometimes cut you a deal, and their soft goods are often reasonably priced, even in-season.
Their sales staff is clueless, but they have at least one tuner who knows how to operate their machine, which is a nice Montana setup, I think. Tunes cost too much there, though.

Are you sure Scandinavian is still even open? I went by there the other day and it looked like it was closed. I don't know if it is only temporary or not but what I saw sure wasn't open.

lars at scandinavian is a pretty good bootfitter.. but my guys will be doing custom boot work as well i believe. they did in fact relocate, but i dont think theyre reopening until october.
Ski Barn on Rte 46W in Wayne, NJ is very capable. Talk to Bart the shop manager. 15 miles West of the Lincoln.
i love ski barn. but that may be a commute for someone living in NYC
