Had a Summit Black IPA the other day. Been in a stout and IPA mood lately. That beer mixed both those styles together in a really good way. Pretty impressed if you are into the hybrid styles.

After case of Maui Big Swell IPA I just need to say that I love a good old fashioned IPA. I know the NEIPAs are all the rage right now, but god damn it's nice to have a consistent, quality west coast IPA!

Interesting, I've only had 2-3 of that style but I'm in Washington. Reading that description was actually more helpful that estimating what the style was from 3 samples. I've started to see some unfiltered but West coast hop profile ipas show up around here

A buddy of mine and I were talking about that while drinking Blind Pig on tap. Damn that is a good beer (much better than Pliny IMO). Once I kill the two NEIPAs I have on tap, I may put a regular IPA back in rotation.

Blind Pig is so underrated... in the shadow of Pliny. Whenever I'm there I find myself getting a growler of the stuff over all of the other options.

Sippin a little Melvin Lambda^3 tonight. Nice, complex hop profile. Edit to add: Holy shit! 13% ABV

Had some Juicy Bits at Weldworks the other day too. Had it a few times before but I gotta say, from the source is quite good. Also had Alpha 4-6, also good. Could not complain a bit.

The latest JB crowlers hitting shelves (brewed offsite, Sleeping Giant I believe) are not nearly as good as what you had from the source. Speaking of JB, props to them for sharing their recipe. Brewed it twice now, adding in some galaxy and upped the dry hops. Really tasty.

Just tapped a keg of Superpower. Still one of my favorite IPAs.

We get both on tap here in Philly at Monks fairly often. In a side by side blind taste test, most of us preferred Blind Pig FWIW

All of weldwerks ipas are made in house. The only things brewed offsite are what's in 12 oz cans (hef and lager, currently). There's no way a large production brewery is filling batches of crowlers. I'm sure juicy bits on site tastes better because crowlers last about as long as growlers but people seem to treat them like a well packaged beer. The DO in crowlers is likely very high leading to a quick drop in quality. I had juicy bits on draft in Denver last week and it was fantastic.

Don't know if they are or aren't contracting JB now. Haven't heard that, but wouldn't surprise me. A canning line could be built or retrofitted to fill Crowlers with minimal DO I suppose. If they aren't doing it now, it wouldn't surprise me in the future. Not a bad idea as they are pretty hot right now. I have always thought that part of the cool factor of the Crowlers was that they filled and sealed them right in front of you right off the taps. Crowler does advise against distributing them.

In other news, it looks like some South African hops varieties will only be available to InBev brewers now. ColMan will remember the SMASH that was brewed with J17/African Queen. I still have one box, so might have to do a "FU BUD IPA". People are losing their minds over the Wicked Weed purchase still. A lot of backlash.

I have purchased several JB crowlers on site after having a pint or two in the taproom. I have also had friends bring many down as well. There is little variation (compared to store bought) and they held up well even after 2-3 weeks. Awesome beer. As for the offsite brewing, I heard that from a guy who knows Neil. Not sure how close they are so it's possible he was full of shit.

Anyhow, a lot of CO breweries are really stepping up their game in regards to NEIPAs. The most impressive one I had recently was out of Great Divide (Local Knowledge #1). Wish they had brewed a larger batch.

Ha! That would be sweet if you brewed it again and used that name. Awesome SMASH. I really like those SA hops. Sucks that InBev is pulling this shit. I'm sure they won't even use all the hops. I could see them trying this with Galaxy next.

I haven't had a SA hop beer that I liked. Only had them in ipas and pales. Too spicy for me. Probably good in a saison though.

You have an uncanny (pun not intended) nack for posting beers that show up on my radar within weeks...a friend in NJ asked me last weekend if I had tried this yet and said it reminded him of a 2nd Fiddle clone but more bitter.
