Moving to SLC tmrw, I've been fiending on dank tap beers before I go. My biggest hang up with SLC is the tap beer scene.
406 brewery citra-amarillo IPA was the goods yesterday. Enjoyed that.

Currently enjoying a New Belgium LOF Super IPA. Seems like their version of Gubna. Tasty, not quite as fruity as the Gubna.

Ninkasi made in the shade IPA was alright, not quite as hoptastic as I'd want, but apparently it's more of a seasonal, drinkable beer.

Belgzman Belgian IPA is a spicy delight. Little bit more going on than the NB Belgo.

Montana Ale Works has some good stuff going on right now. I should have been destroying happy hour here for the past week. Damn.

The Alaskan White IPA? You sure you don't mean the Anchorage Bitter Monk?

Also from Sante Adairius - Last Friday. Little less boozy, still hoppy, served with a floating hop. Tasty

It's good. I liked it better after a few. It leans a little sour, and I'm not a sour guy.

We have a really cool beer seller here in Reno, probably like most places, but ours still feels a little unique. I got these Firestones there.

Went to Costco the other day, and besides the overwhelming amount of burners, I noticed they also had this Firestone DBA as well. I picked up 12 of the Lagunitas Lucky 13's instead.

My favorite IPA's have come from Mikkeller. Evil Twin is his brother. Twin in fact. Evil Twin does a lot of sours, but when he makes an IPA, it's fuckin' good. The Disco pictured there is an IPA aged in chardonnay barrels. It's really nice. It's the one in the glass.

    Nice write up splitter.

On the new "lighter" not quite an IPA front, give Lagunitas Day Time a pass. It's got a few hops, it's light, it's.... still the same money as real beer from them and not nearly as good.

Except for the Katz Pis. That one was painful to drink. Like drinking lavender soap. The others, very good. I love Mikeller - the single hop series was incredible.

Sounds something like Wee Geech from Anderson Valley. Just in time for Bay Area summertime coming up soon - a cold hoppy not-too-malty 4.5% session beer is definitely called for on a brutal hot day.

The Evil Twin Hipster series was good. I hate saying, but it was...

The Mikeller Hop Burn reminds me of a dogfish 90

I think Drake's Alpha Session is the best of the bunch I've tried.... but at the price they are charging for them, I prefer other beers (a good pilsener for a light beer example, or just the regular IPAs)

Alesmith IPA and Elysian Jasmine IPA are two I just tried and would recommend. They are rather floral and different than your average session beer. Both go well with food, particularly thai or another spicey cuisine. Not something I'm going to drink on a daily basis as they are a little too malty and lack the hop bite (particularly the Alesmith), but definitely worthy of an occasional drink. I think both are available only in bombers.

Jasmine IPA is pretty good with spicy food. Have not had it in a while.
Had a Smuttynose Homunculus the other day. http://smuttynose.com/beers/the_smut...omunculus.html. Not really an IPA, but had the hop profile of one, more like a Belgian IPA, imo.

Any of you Front Rangers had Dank IPA? New favorite I think. I think it's delicious. I get it at Mile High Wine and Spirits at BelMar, but I'm sure the hip beer stores have it. I'm interested to hear what others think.

This one is the perfect strength imo.. kind of in between a regular and double IPA.

After seeing your comment and the reviews on Beer Advocate, I decided to pick up a sixer today and am currently sipping on one. It's good! I was always skeptical since it was brewed in Utah.

Had this for the first time Friday night.. it's fantastic. Smells like weed imo, which is entertaining.

Glad you like it, certainly no shortage of flavors. Funny - I read some reviews after drinking it and saw a review on it by one "Hugh Conway". Small world.

OK hop heads. My buddy's wife is throwing him a beer tasting party for his bday. He enjoys a good IPA but really hasn't ventured out of his comfort zone.
Anyways I am looking for some recommendations that may be available in the northeast. So far we have the following recommendations from the guy she is dealing with:
    Maine Beer Co. Zoe
    Andersen Valley Hop Ottin
    Green Flash

Thinking of adding some Stones Ruination.

What else you got for recommendations that may be available in Massachusetts?

For IPAs - whatever's fresh. I don't know what you can get in MA that's been treated well. Bear
    Republic? Lagunitas?

for funny, Lagunitas is the "official malt beverage" of US Ski Jumping

WTF is a "white" IPA? I've had a couple good, and a couple of weird. Chainbreaker's in the latter, it looks like pee.

Isn't it basically wheat malts, belgian yeast, and strong american pale style hopping?

Alchemist / Green Flash's was great - my favorite that I've had of the style

Ignore Hugh's NorCal snootiness. You have a lot of good IPA options nearby. Sierra is the only western brewer that I know of that ships their shit cold all the way across the country. Go Local
Clownshoes and Pretty Things have excellent offerings, plus you have access to all the VT and NY IPAs (Long Trail, Rockart, Alchemist is a maybe) along with Smuttynose, Harpoon, Shipyard and Redhook for more macro stuff.
Also, Sierra IPA is always solid.

Dickbag it's not snobbishness I don't know wtf he can get fresh. That's what's best

Not a big deal or nuthin but I'm a devoted beer drinker and have been for a good bit. We may disagree on preference but seriously.. Laguna Beach Daytime = Pass for a light IPA? Please inform me of the superior light IPAs that put Daytime to shame b/c that shit tastes goooot.

I know you care about the subject so I'm not trying to disregard that. Some reasoning beyond "meh" would be helpful though.
