Any opinions on cloudy IPAs vs clear IPAs? There's been a battle brewing in the industry between brewers who think it is sacrilege to serve a cloudy IPA, and others who are intentionally serving yeasty, cloudy, IPAs.

We're not just talking chill haze, we are talking full on yeast clumps at the bottom of your glass and thick, murky, translucent orange beer, which happens to be primarily from the NE. These guys are using a proprietary english yeast strain that doesn't really floc out and remains in suspension much longer. Other breweries and labs are even taking the yeast from Heady, propping it up, and using it themselves to get the same characteristics. Some even use wheat or oats to help the yeast remain in suspension or give the beer that signature cloudy look.

MMP gave me some Treehouse beers like Julius, and I've had a ton of Heady Toppers, both which were really good of course. But I've also tried a few that were just bad. Perhaps not fresh enough, maybe hops were a little muddled from mixing with yeast, or just not a good malt bill. But overall, I see it as another sub-category of beer that can be good or bad and has gained regional popularity especially in the NE and a little in the PNW.

So what does the general beer drinking consumer think of this emerging trend in IPAs?
Makes me double down. On my dislike for IPA.

2x4 is pretty darn good, huh? Been enjoying the occasional drops of Pipeworks Ninja vs Unicorn lately as well.

Best damn IPA in a can I've had. Been drinking it for a couple years now. Easily in my top ten.

niceeee. top cutter is a staple. I'm also partial to field 41.

I've been on a session kick; alternating between 10 Barrel and Ballast Mango Even Keel as of late.

Can't say I've had either. I love a field 41 on a hot day. Damn fine brew. Bale breaker is doing it right. And they are local. I love it.

Wish 10 barrel hadn't sold out. Total bummer

Single Cut Softly Spoken Magic Spells. Not a huge double IPA guy, but this was nice. If I drank it blind I would have sworn it was a Tree House creation. Best beer I've have from Single Cut by far.

You gotta give us more than its now one of your favorites; how does it compare to the Heady? How long has it been out? Can you ship some to me?

Been around a Couple years now. Still relative unobtanium. Occasional limited releases, but best bet for finding it is at a restaurant like the prohibition pig.

Lighter HT, with tropical notes and I think a bit of "grassyness" if not in taste , smell. It's delicious.

No. I love the Sculpin line. Watermelon Dorado is a no go for me.

Told my local alcohol dealer to get off his ass, and find some.

It's 3.2 beer it has half the alcohol as a Scuplin....Tastes like Hop Water with mango concentrate.

Easy Jack is the best low alcohol content session IPA you can readily get. Super Session #2 is pretty phenomenal for the style but good luck outside of VT

Yeah only available through restaurants except for rare releases. Hopefully that changes with the new brewery opening???

Alchemist brews other beers as well.

I was expecting to be blown away by FB and was not at all. Light and Grassy is exactly how i would describe it as well. Nothing like Heady in my opinion. Still haven't had a Treehouse but fresh Todd the Axeman is my all time fav at the moment.

Pretty much nailed the description, think HT without the bite, and more tropical for sure. A must try IMO but will admit I wasn't blown away.

FWIW a couple bars in Burlington have it, just usually out of my cheap ass price range.
