I'm usually a gin and club soda guy in the summer, but I've been sucking down Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPAs and Founders All Day IPAs all summer. Few things are better after a long mountain bike ride. Also digging Two Roads Lil' Heaven IPA lately.

The 14th star is my local brewery. I am glad these guys are making a go of it. And they appear to be doing well. It is run by a VTNG vet. However, I don't really like their beer even if everybody else does. Their "Pilsner" is OK as a beer but not really a Pilsner in my book. It reminds me of a Pale Ale. So I drink that when we go there for various events and functions. I don't like the Valour Ale and the Maple Stout which are what you will find on tap in pretty much every restaurant and bar in town. I tried the Imperial Stout and it was a lot more bitter than I think it should be. My favorite stouts are from Samuel Smith so that's a tall order to live up to that.

The local packy just started carrying 10 Barrel's Joe IPA, and Apocalypse IPA. Both quite tasty, and distinctly different. IMO Joe is the danker of the two, but both are yum.

Space Juice is disappointing. Way too malty for a VT ipa.

After several more samples I have to say I'm not as enamoured by da juice as I was originally but I wouldn't go as far as saying disappointed. Definitely a bit on the malty side but what I think I am missing more is the carbonation, it almost borders on flat.

I definitely like Window but prefer Wizard. So many amazing beers and styles in VT (and NE for that matter) right now...golden age indeed, it's a wonderful time to be a lush!

The first bottle of this year's batch of Double Dose did not last long earlier. If you are going to do a yearly collab, you could do worse than teaming with Sean Lawson.

just back from TreeHouse. They do a can release on wednesday now (the last several weeks). Today was Alter Ego IPA and Curiosity 22 IPA. These are in my work fridge, distracting me.

CURIOSITY TWENTY TWO (American IPA - 7 % ABV) - At Tree House, we often brew following our moods, emotions, and fleeting moments of inspiration. This particular batch is inspired by a several things - a fresh lot of Amarillo hops, a renewed sense of focus for coaxing character out of our house yeast strain, and a wonderful piece of artwork by our friend Dean McKeever. Twenty Two pours a hazy orange in the glass and emits aromas of peach, apricot, and hints of papaya. The flavor follows suit, with peach being the predominant characteristic we experience. A firm orange rind bitterness balances things out. The Curiosity beers have always been brewed on a relatively small scale - we are excited that this particular batch is large, and more people than ever will get to try some. We hope you like it! ($3.75 / can) - Limit 8 cans PP ~ 450 cases available

ALTER EGO (Single IPA - 6.8%) - What we did here is we took a whole bunch of Mosaic and Amarillo hops, a classic punch of citrus purveying goodness, and added them to the Julius dry hop. The base beer is exactly the same, but the dry hop is altered tremendously. The result is a beer with all the deliciousness of the base beer with a layer of added citrusy complexity. Like devil Julius or something. A real treat! Fresh this week. ($3.75 / can) - Limit 4 cans PP ~ 190 cases available

Had a great trip back to the Northeast earlier this month. Couple days to kill in VT before sales meeting for 4 days, picked the wife up in Boston then headed to Maine for another four days.

Landed in Burlington around 2, jumped in the rental and headed straight to Fiddlehead. Unfortunately missed the Second Fiddle can release by a day. Grabbed two 32oz growlers of their IPA and Session IPA and jumped back in the car to head down to Foley Brothers in Brandon before it closed at 5. I grew up there so it's cool to see a local hometown brewery brewing such awesome beers. Grabbed a bunch of bottles of Citrennial, Pieces of 8, and Fair Maiden. Big fan of almost all their beers. Small place a lot of people don't know about but if you see their bottles definitely give them a try. They are making some world class IPAs right now.

Killed a day golfing on Monday then got up early to hit Waitsfield to grab some Lawsons and Heady after they were delivered. I think if I could only drink one Beer for the rest of my life it would be Sip of Sunshine. Absolutely love this stuff. Their Super Session #2 was awesome as well. Blows the doors off Daytime, All Day, Easy Jack. Not even close! Grabbed some Lost Nation Gose and Mosaic (both winners) and another fav, Tribute by 14th star.

Meetings for a few days then headed to Boston to drop a bud off and pick the wife up. Had a few hours to kill and I had heard so much about Trillium that I headed into town. Tiny place that just fills growlers and sells bottles. Line was out the door for growler fills but no line for bottles. Grabbed a few of Congress, Melcher, and Sunshower. Haven't had the Sunshower yet but holy shit the Melcher and Congress blew my mind. I had heard good things about these guys but I wasn't prepared for such eat drinking yet full of flavor IPAs. They are so balanced and damn good. Honestly these were the surprise of the trip. If you fly into Logan make sure to hit them up on your way out.

Went next door to Trillium (can't remember the name) for a beer and quick bite and holy shit this place had a beer list. Seem to remember a Hill Farmstead and Foundation on tap but opted for a Billy 200 Watt from Single Cut. Wow, another awesome east coast IPA. Managed to find a Does Anyone Remember Laughter bottle later that day that was equally as good. Definitely seek their stuff out! Bought some Brewmaster Jack at the same time, and while it's good it definitely didn't stand up to the Lawsons, trillium, alchemist, Single Cut beers I'd been drinking.

While in Maine I was fired up to finally have Lunch, some Bissell, and Foundation. Unfortunately I couldn't find any Bissell or Foundation in cans and actually Foundation was hard to find period. I heard tons of praise about Epiphany but never could find it. Anyone here have it?

All in all I was pretty disappointed in Substance from Bissell. It tasted like the glass was literally half full of hops/Ganga. Too overpowering in a weird way.

Managed to smuggle a case of SOS, some heady and lost nation, home in the luggage and shipped about 24 bottles back to myself. Only three detonated in transit.

I would say the Northeast wins when it comes to world class IPAs. Yeah there are standouts in every part of the country but there is such a concentration of world class beers there it's crazy.

WB, nice trip. You likely hit Row 34 near Trillium. Doubtful they had HF but maybe Alpine. They have a killer draft list but HF currently not distributing to Boston. Trillium is doing a nice job with their hop forward stuff.

Brewmaster Jack ok but def another tier than most of the beers you acquired / consumed.

Treehouse another local standout but still rare to see it in Boston. Can't wait until their distribution expands. Trillium too for that matter. They are now just selling too much direct from retail to service their draft accounts.
