Heading to river roost to grab a Couple growlers and try their new single hop 'feet first:denali'
I've been consistently scoring cans in Ma for a few months, so can't comment on how it used to be. Quality is always going to slip a bit going from micro to macroish, but 2 Roads has a world class facility. Does keeping it cold matter that much? I suspect its warm during transport etc.

This turned out to be an enjoyable late night pair for IPA day.

I'm not sure. I think it might be the availability of so many really good beers these days that the SOS just doesn't seem as awesome as it once was? I still enjoy it, but there are many beers out there that I would rate above it for my palate.

Mast Landing's "Jonah". Damned tasty. Haven't seen it canned yet but worth seeking if you're in Maine

I've been training for the Vermont Overland, end of the month. No beers since end of June. This thread is making it difficult! Looking forward to enjoying some nectar after the race. So many great choices.

It is hard to upscale a beer recipe. One can not just double or triple the ingredients.

If he is making it on a larger bbl system there will be a learning curve.

Had a surprisingly good NE IPA in London last night, from Twickenham Fine Ales, imaginatively called "NEIPA". They nailed the turbidity, and the "juicy" flavor. It was a bit undercarbed (you could argue it's a consequence of the typical carb levels for "real ale", I guess) but it was still pretty good. It's weird to see these upstart styles already showing up internationally.

FWIW, the bar is actually in Hanwell, and is called The Grosvenor. If you find yourself in the area, it's definitely worth a stop. For all the pubs that promise craft beer over here, a lot of the time I'm finding it to be Stone or Lagunitas or Sierra Nevada. It's nice to find a place that has some good local breweries represented, too.

A friend in Beantown sent me a message last week that Adult Human was fantastic, hoping for a care package this week.

Latest batch of Upper Pass Cloud Drop is the best yet.

Adult Human is good. I drank one and letting the others rest a bit.

I hear that about Upper Pass. I need to get back up to VT

Yeah, I've been blocked out with filling the cooler to ship! Hopefully end of this week once they open back up on Weds.

They built a new facility recently, hence the name of the beer.

Interesting. Were they pulling from a hand pump? Sparkler? Was it cold or "cellar" temp?

It's been a long time since I was in England and Scotland. We had photocopied pages of the cambra guide for all the cities we spent time in. We were also in Scotland after their real ale festival and had some fresh casks of the winning ales. I loved their ipas.

This one was a "keg beer" served at keg temps (i.e., cold, like American draft beer). The bar had 8 beer engines, but only 4 in service. Of those, only 3 were on offer. The manager explained that, during the summer, demand for ale drops considerably, and if he runs all 8 lines, they don't "shift" the beer often enough. During the winter, though, he'll have all 8 moving full speed.

My experience with real ale has been very hit or miss. I've generally regarded it as something that's pleasant enough while I'm there, but not anything I'd seek out. That said, I hadn't thought to check the CAMRA guides. Maybe I'm just going to the wrong places...

Interesting to hear how the brits may be doing neipa.

My experience with "real" cask ale: I had heard of the potential of having cask ale that had gone bad, and we were weary of it. We only experienced it once, and it sucked. It smelled and tasted awful. Everything else was great.

I love going to the local pour house for lunch. I often get to try new beers as the reps come in to sell. Always happy to be a guest taster.

Fuckin' miss Dust Bowl! For three years I was a regular at the downtown Turlock tap room. Kept me (relatively) sane whilst living in Merced. Fuckin' great people, too.
