    Colorado/Utah Ascents

Im outta class from the afternoon of the 29th (Wednesday) - Sunday night (Oct 3rd). I was looking to do a few peaks, anywhere from class 1 scrambles - longer class 5 routes. I've got a rope, rack, shiny bits and everything in between, am WFR certified, and haven't managed to kill myself yet.

I'm currentlly in Colorado Springs, thinking Colorado would be ideal, unless something in Utah is worth the haul.

Anybody want in? Please save me from another sketchball solo mission.

back to page one because skiing may be involved. If you consider 50 degree bullet proof ice skiing.

South twin lakes. Quite a few 14er possibilities from there, assuming you get up to the trailhead...

I'll go with you one day if you're going skiing. Mmmmm, think new snow - not bulletproof ice. I don't know anything about all that bondage stuff though.

Well I was looking at Kat Carson, which is a fourteener right behind Kit Carson. It has a third class coulouir on it that should be filled up with hard snow and ice, prob. aroudn 50, 60 degrees max. The long range forecast has snow coming in that break, so that might change plans.

Are you talking about the Outward Bound couloir, if you are, then I would be HIGHLY doubt that it would be anything close to skiable right now. That usually melts out around mid July and turns into a shooting gallery after that, but I would love for you to prove me wrong.

Well plans have changed as the snow has fallen in different areas. Current goal is Castle Peak, I've done the scramble up the NW ridge on this before. The goal for this week is the north face direct route up the face (center couloir in pic)

Theres also a monster chute down conundrumwhich is the adjacent peak:

That would be goal number 2

As of 2-3 days ago there were reports of waist deep snow on castle. So plan is to ditch the gear at the base and chill for a couple days while climbing said routes and hopefully skiing said routes. If anyone is interested, post away. I'm leaving early thurs. if not wed. night I was going to bring full ice gear in hopes of finding some decent routes. Although that may be a bit optimistic.
