Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

As a former cigarette smoker I'll agree with the people that say: don't blame the companies. 99% of us losers knew that cigarettes were bad shit and we did it anyway. If I die from lung cancer, it won't be cigarette companies that kill me, it'll be my own stupid self (which is why I'm quitting).

Sell the photo, take the cash.

People are responsible for their own decisions. If they feel the need to pollute themselves, let them.

i see the dilema..... but maybe, just say fuck it, and sell it. sell it for lots and lots of american dollars. that way, you buy more film, and keep shooting, and we all get to see more ski porn. see, it's really win/win.

however....if they don't want to pay jack shit, i.e. not what the photo is worth, then don't sell it. that is a photo ethics issue worth standing up for, and i will stop now before i get too high on the soap box.

Nice ethics dude.. Same goes for al the 'take the money, they won't use your picture directly for advertising smoking' (wake up guys: THEY WILL).

But anyway, that's the thing isn't it? Ethics are so goddamned inpractical it's hard to live by them.. That's why we have dilemmas, which are a tradeof between what we want and what we shouldn't do and most of the time end up in some sort of excuse just to forget about our moral.

    So answer these questions :

    1. What's your view on smoking and the smoking industry?
    2. If you have a negative association with smoking or the industry, how strongly do you feel it?
    3. If you have a strong negative feeling about it, then don't sell out. If you don't, then sell the pics.

Remember, it's you who's got to live with your choice. Your ethics are involved and you should do whatever you feel is best. People will have to respect that.

Absolutely take the money. If you are feeling guilty about it, then donate a portion of the cash to an anti-smoking campaign like Truth.com or something.

you sold them an image i made!!!!! assface, give me my money.

i don't really think you should sweat this grant. you need money, they want to give it to you.

i do, however, have a serious problem with how marlboro gets people this mag in the first place (seeing as its been comming to my house for over a year and i cant get off the fucking list). there i am, at the bar per usual, and there are two super hot ladies walking around a flirting with dudes and giving out butts. my friend is a serious butt choker, and wants all the free cancer sticks he can get his hands on. he convinces me to get him some free butts (they were giving out 2 packs per person). so we flirt with the marlboro chicas, and fill out our names. i put my name down as Lung F. Cancer.
this didn't sit well with the lady, and she said that couldn't be my name. i said it was, it's asian i say. she says i don't look asian, and she needs to have whats on my drivers license. she says she also has to verify my age. i mention that we are in a bar, and i have a pimms and ginger in my hand, so i'm obviouosly of age. I'm drunk, and shes hot, and she finally got me to show her my licence. when i pull it out she, like a cat, grabs it away from me and swipes it on a mini portable magnetic card reader. i got pissed. what the fuck, you never said you were putting me in any database, i yelled at her, nearly spilling pimms all over her giant silicone chest. she said it was nothing, just verifying that the license was legit. well, the fucking bitch lied. i now get every damn marloboro adventure team catalouge and their stupid outdoor adventure mag. stupid fucking marlboro. i should have dumped an entire bottle of pimms into that lady's ass.

I'd like to think if I were in your shoes I wouldn't sell-out to a tobacco company, but I probably would if the money was right.

People who say the cigarette companies aren't doing anything wrong because it's people's choice to smoke are wrong, IMO. These companies are selling a product they know kills millions of people and is highly addictive. I'd say they have some burden of guilt here.

I also think Marlboro publishing a magazine about action sports is a bad fucking joke.

Hey Man ,follow your Heart & Soul.

    Basom,that is Hilarious!

That being said,Fuck cigarette manufactuers in their stupid asses, they are fucking clown shoes!!!!

Everybody talks about how bad Meth,Heroin,& coke dealers are .No one says a word about cigarette makers, the largest, most wealthy & insidious drug dealers in the world.Ever wonder why you don't hear John ASScroft talking about nicotine as a gateway drug!Ever wonder why in America it says on the package,May cause.....In Canada it says on the pack, this product will kill you.Doesn't seem to stop those Canucks, but at least its not bullshit legalese designed to hood wink ignorant youngsters.

To those who say people know what they are getting into,I say BULLSHIT! They market that low octane ,sub-schwag to kids because they know their chances of marketing it succesfully to more life experienced adults is about as likely as getting Charlton Heston to be MC at a Gays against Families & Gun control convention.

The average girl is hooked in 6 weeks, the average boy 6 months, the average time it takes for an individual that quits to quit,17 years.

If young people really grasped that they would be addicts paying others money to kill them slowly, they wouldn't do it.They think, I'm young & impervious to such things,I'll just smoke now & quit later when I want to.

I wouldn't sprinkle that shit on my soup!

While gambling & alcohol & other things can be abused like anything can,I think cigs are the fucking worst. Not only are they not fit to eat the corn out of a dead mans shit, but most addicts want you to take their shitty drugs as well via second hand smoke. This isn't Reefer Madness! When was the last time you made someone else drink your alcohol ,smoke your pot,or gamble your money?OK may that last question wasn't a good example for this crowd!!!!!!!!!!!

Ther's a difference betweem selling out,& selling your soul.Only you can stop forest fires!
    Calmer than you dude

Wrong. I thought we already established that water is the ultimate gateway drug.

Come on. Cars kill people, booze kills people, skiing kills people. If we ban everything that people die from then there would be nothing left. And don't claim driving isn't addictive, look at all the lazy fucks that drive when they need to go 200 yards.
I think we can all agree skiing is very addictive.

    Sell the pics!

Who said anything about banning cigarettes?

In any event you can't seriously compare these other things to smoking in terms of health risk.

what does health risk have to do with GG making some cash (i can only think if he doesn't get his cash to buy some PBR it will be a health risk to the people of B'ham). personally i kinda like that marlboro magazine, they have some cool articles in there every once in a while.

By helping them advertise, he's helping them sell cigarettes. By selling cigarettes Philip Morris is helping to kill people (assuming we're talking about Marlboro here).

Even if you take "the smokers are choosing to kill themselves" tack, we're all paying for the health costs associated with smoking through increasing insurance premiums.

I'm not so sure you really thought about that. Alcohol can be a tremendously destructive force in peoples' lives, both physically and emotionally - right on par w/ smoking. I'm surprised attorneys haven't already figured out a way to pin it on the booze makers. Maybe it's because the market is more diversified than tobacco, and thus harder to find one single solution/scapegoat i.e. Phillip Morris.

I wonder if we would be having this conversation if Grant was approached by Pabst Blue Ribbon? Smoking is/has been a huge societal faux pas and only because the fat cat lawyers and media say so, and it smells of sheep mentality.

Grant...how do you feel? I think you should Chase your dreams, build your resume, and parlay it into something better...
