Performance Car of the Year Review

I've bunged a few pictures from our assessment weekend up at

    http://www.badroo.alivewww.co.uk/PCO.../PCOTY2003.htm

Needless to say, IT WENT OFF! What a weekend. I'll write a more detailed report on it next week when I get back to the office but it really was a car nut's dream. As well as the five cars we took, I also got to drive an 800bhp Viper GTS-R around the Nurburgring plus prat around in a bunch of Formula Renault cars. I can still hear the team boss at Zakspeed - "Andy, zis is not a rally car. Zis is a race car wiss downforce. Please don't drive it sideways."

I figured the M1 guy would nanny it round but he blew me away in the Evo VIII. One look at his tyres gives a clue as to that thing's cornering ability...

Porsche gets the threepeat for our review. Boxster S won in 2001, Carrera 4s in 2002 and the Turbo X does the business this time round.

Matt Becker from Lotus travelled with us and I got to do some laps with him and Dirk Schoysmann. Matt had just got back from Glendale where he's been doing federalisation testing for the new US Elise. It's got air con, electric windows, carpet and even a cupholder! I also got a first glimpse at the new 190bhp Toyota engined Elise as some other lads from Lotus were down doing some ABS tests.

The car park outside the Pistenklaus was a spy photographer's dream the night before industry day. As well as that Elise there was the hot Caddy CTS, the new Merc SLK and the baby Aston DB GT.

Nah, I'm sure it was this one. And if they make the convertible with that engine it'd be a pretty cool caddy.
