I surfed 93rd St (or there about) for 5 years or so. Surfed what we called the Halloween Swell, of Perfect Storm fame. Huge, lined up and off shore. Miss that place. Mis the warmth of Summer and early Fall.

Also surfed my coldest day ever there. Perfect head high in February. 10 kt steady off shore. Air temp was between 15-20F. Water temps had dipped below 40. Oh, and no one out. Walked out the jetty. Jumped off between sets. Caught one and had to straighten out down the line. When I came back up from under the water, I paddled back out. First wave came and broke outside of me. I absolutely could not get myself to willingly go under that water again, even though it was much warmer than the air.

Turned around, let it hit me and bellied in. I think I changed back in the subway station, by the heater.

who else is dreading the crowds this weekend? I'm sure I will get over it once I see that it's overhead and self regulating the canadians.

Because of the heat or is there swell a coming? I was just in NYC over the weekend visiting the new niece. Damn it was hot and humid.

Looks like ya'll may have some storms brewing down south.

Maine, hands down. But I am biased. Not for culture, but surf breaks and beauty.

    Other good locales:

New Hampshire has perhaps the most quality breaks packed in just 16 miles of coastline.

Rhode Island. Ruggles in Newport. Point Judith. Manasquan (sp).

Long Island. Jones Beach Breakwater. Points on the tip. Plenty of beach break in between. Rockaway, Queens, NYC. Oh, NYC has some culture.

Outer Banks, NC. Lighthouse, Frisco Pier, elsewhere. Not much culture, but plenty of empty peaks if you just walk down the beach
What you have mentioned sounds good.......
