    Fuck! I CAN'T DECIDE! I Need A Concensus!

What set up am I going to use this Winter? Read this, then vote. I will select the set up that you guys vote fore. Guaranteed.

I have no pass this year, meaning that 3 out 4 days will be spent in local backcountry. Our local back country can mean anything from powder glades to steep chutes to lots of trees. It encompasses every sort of skiing except for groomers/bumps. Most routes require extended hikes, except for a few road-assisted ones. I don't do a lot of bc kickers or the like.

I will, however, be making a monthly or bimonthly trip out of state. This monthly exodus will take me to either Targhee, Jackson, Big Sky or Alta/Bird--basically resorts with lots of pow. Alta/bird and Targhee are the two most frequented. This will account for about 1/4 of my days on snow this WINTER.

Which leads me to my next point: Not to be underestimated is my annual 2 week trip to South America, where we mainly do lift serviced skiing, with some longer tours that are lift assisted. This trip is 12 days of skiing, give or take, and the skiing can be quite aggressive with tighter chutes and steeps.

    The Components:

-185 Rossi Gordy-Stock (less side cut, stiffer) XXX's
    -190 Volkl Gotamas
    -Solly Bindings
    -Freerides
-I also have a pair of Alpine Trekkers (important factor)

    What's the combo?

The Rossi's are my "I can ski anything ski" because they're short and stiff. They are great in technical stuff and hold a great edge. Would also make a great touring ski because they're shorter/lighter than V's and I don't haul too much ass, typically, in the BC.

Volkls are a great super-g-in-fluff ski. Hypothetically a great touring ski, but with Fritchi's, will they hold up at speed if I take them during an epic resort day? I see them as being some freight trains for big turns, etc.

So what would you do with this situation?

The stiffer xxx's would ski better alpine when the going gets crudy or firmer. not that that ever happens though

I've seen freerides cruising at high speed on groomers at Red regularly. Personally, I would pick my favorites (Volkl) and put the freerideson 'em.

Is gordy-stock the old XXX's sidecut? I put freerides on B3s and am loving them.

The question is which skis to mount the Freerides on.

The question I'd key off of is whether the Gotamas can handle the crud to windpack to crust and whether I have to mad skilz to thread the ratty tree slots. Factor in paying for the extra weight of the Gotamas on the ass scents.

Ass zooming yes to these to Q's, I'd mount the Gotamas with the Freerides.

I still don't really understand twin tip pow skis.

Anyway, if I think that the answer to 2 out of the 3 questions is maybe to no, I'd mount the Freerides on the XXX's.

Off the cuff, I'd say mount the FR's on the XXX's for versatility and weight. But with some new Gotama's luring me, I'd probably do something stoopid.

I think that you want to put the stiffer binders on the stiffer skis. If you mix and match you run the risk of two setups that ski similarly. (I realize that they will not ski similarly, just trying to put in perspective)

xxx-sollie setup makes for a good in-bounds setup and leave the Gotama-freeride for the bc. Trekkers make it possible to break out the xxxs on crusty spring days in the bc.

    One man's humble opinion.

G's for the light and deep, Rossis for everything else.
