Just talked to SuPu on the phone - he doesn't much internet access. Says his Mom's doing better and starting to be able to communicate a bit.

We're thinking you Pu and Pu's Mom!

Being there for your family is the greatest thing you can do right now...

...a couple years ago my father was in a similar situation when he had a freak stroke from a piece of plaque from an arterie in his neck...he had to have a massive head surgery and times got rough. Luckily he's about 98% back to normal, which is a good thing. So I know what you're going through...give me a call if you need some advice...

    ^ Update 11/29/04

    Hey Maggs,

Thanks for the vibes, e-mail and PMs. It really did help me get through one of the most difficult phases of my life.

Just wanted to let you know that my momma is doing well. After 3 brain surgeries, a month in the ICU, then another month in an intensive rehab center, she was released from hospital last week. Everything's all good, and she's about 80% there. Speech and Occupational Therapy should last a few months. She's progressed a long way from last September when the Doc gave her a 50/50 chance of pulling through.

She had a burst aneurysm which led to a brain hemorrhage. The aneurysm runs in the family- one of my uncles died from the same thing in 1972 at age 26, and my grandpa died of the same thing in 1995. Everyone in the family now needs regular MRIs to ensure this does not happen. Another concern was that there were numerous warning signs that had been overlooked- in the couple of months leading up to this she had severe headaches which she attributed to migraines. We found this out when going through her journal and also found a stash of meds for headaches....so if you or anyone close to you is having a bunch of headaches please have them checked out!

We celebrated her 60th b-day last Halloween, and then we flew her back from NYC to LA last Tuesday. She's undergoing speech and occupational therapy and is being looked after by my granny, with the rapists, I mean therapists coming over a few times a week. Docs say that a home environment and lots of family interaction is the best way to recover.

Thanks again for the ++++++ vibes, thoughts and prayers.

    Punani

PS. Call your mom (and dad) regularly, even for no reason at all, and tell her you love her. She will be stoked.

No need to give her a heart attack.

Thanks for the update, Pu. I'm really glad to hear she's doing better.

so cool. so glad to know she's doing better. we need to go out and toast to our moms - they've both had tremendous challenges and seem to be coming through like champs.
