burst mode help (digi camera)

So after two years I finally messed with the burst mode in my digi camera. We had some fun with a little backyard pool-jibbing and basket ball shots.

My question is…how do I make one of those moving images like some of you have in your avatars?

When I view the pics in the camera it plays them back in sequence. When I upload the file to my pc its just one still pic with 16 little pics inside it.

Do I need a special program?
Any free ones out there?
