    paging Red Baron...

See, I don't know about that. Meteorologists have been pointing to the increased hurricane activity and jet stream movement, to say that there ISN'T an el nino in effect right now.

Big career field with a lot of people using different methods for their predictions, and you have to bet there are some trying to get famous out of all this. So there's going to be a huge difference of opinions...

it means that 3 times out of 10 there will be a 50% probablity of an average snowfall with the forecast accuracy not significantly better than chance.

How does that correlate to predicting the winter in various regions of the nation, which, I believe, is the pertinent topic on the table?
AKPM - serve yourself and do some in-depth web reaearch at NOAA. Please, show us you can do it.

But do these things really have anything to do with it? I'm pretty sure El Nino only pertains to warmer than normal equatorial water temperatures in the Pacific. NOAA just had a story confirming the presence of El Nino.

The maps are too damn small, but basically El Nino often produces more snowfall in the southern Rockies, and less in the Northern Rockies and NE U.S. So El Nino years are good years to plan your Taos trip. Telluride and Silverton might not be bad bets, either.

Thanks, AD. I just wanted to see if the kid could muster up enough brain muscle to make a contribution as significant as yours. AKPM - take notes. Spew is spew, significant contributions actually require some effort beyond that noise for which parrots are known. Don't just mimic spew. Do something real.

I knew AKPM wouldn't do it since the links I posted don't even show Alaska. He would never have been able to complete his assignment after seeing that.

That's because there's no nutritional value in 2751 posts unless the calories are balanced with a little protein.
