    Don't drink and drive

    Seriously

Just got the pictures of my friend's Jeep. He was going the wrong way down the interstate and hit a charter bus head on. The bull bar on the front is a steel ARB, frame mounted.

Initially I was shocked and concerned for my friend. He live a couple hours from here, so I spent half the day making calls to find out what had happened and how he was doing. Fortunately, his injuries were minor, and more importantly nobody on the bus was injured.

Apparently he was released from the hospital today (a week after the accident). My concern has been replaced with anger and frustration. That bus could just as easily have been a family in a minivan. It's still too soon for me to tell him what an asshole he is as he's still recovering, but now that I've gotten over the shock of how lucky he is to be alive, I feel the need to lay into him.

Anyway, this has been an emotional experience, and these pictures sort of confirmed the reality. Not here to preach (Ullr knows I've been guilty of driving when I shouldn't have been), but be careful out there, and make the right decisions. He was lucky, This could have been a whole lot worse.

    Thanks

No, this happened last week in Charleston...not game related. The only people who got injured last night were the ones who got pepper sprayed trying to pull down the goal post.

    Wrong way down the INTERSTATE?

You've got to be really, seriously drunk to do that. Not just "I had a few beers", but totally fucking wasted. There is no possible excuse.

Go ahead and lay into him, he deserves anything he gets from you or anyone else.

From the looks of pic #2 I'm guessing he was by himself and wearing a seatbelt. Looks like he was lucky he was just off center of the bus.

Wrong way down the interstate, yeah wasn't just a little buzzed but probably pretty much obliterated.

I won't rail on D&D too much, but after a point you've gotta find some other way to get home. Trouble is you usually recognize that point the next morning when you can't remember how you got home.

The moral: listen to your friends, if they think you shouldn't be driving then you damn sure shouldn't be. Hang with people that don't think that making it home in a blackout is a sign of manliness and will tell you that you are too drunk to drive.

Lucky guy, I've been lucky too, lots of us have. Don't press your luck; sooner or later it runs out.

People make wrong decisions everyday while driving. You just happen to know this person. Hopefully,he will get a wake-up call from his near death mistake. If you do tear into him,do it face to face. I glad to hear your friend will be ok.

Nice tires. I had a friend that used drive when he was wasted until he hit a parked car in front of a cop. Now he realizes cab fare is a whole lot cheaper than a DWI.

Holy shit man. That guy and many others are lucky. He could have killed anyone. That bar may have saved him, but if nailed a car, it would kill everyone in the other vehicle.

Lay into him, with the pictures and show him. He or anyone can't do that kind of shit. Sure, I have been guilty too, but nothing like down the wrond side of the freaking freeway. I know those WV freeways and he had to be shitfaced and then some to pull that one off.

On another note, I watched every second of that game and was kinda drunk by the end and yelling at the TV. How was your experience?? What REALLY happened?? It made our LOCAL news in LOGAN UTAH!!

We kicked their asses all over that field!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Unhappy

Those pictures are an excellent reminder to practice defensive driving as well.

This absolutely infuriates me. Not drinking and driving is a monetary decision?

I have very little respect for those who drink and drive. I lost a good friend in a very similar manner. Drunk was driving down the wrong way on a four lane divided highway. He made it about 3 miles before hitting my friend. The car in front of her swerved leaving her with little time to react. The accident happend towards the end of our senior year in high school and she was to graduate on her 18th birthday. She lived long enough for her parents and siblings to say their goodbyes. I come from a small community (about 2,500 people) and I can say that her death had an effect on the entire town. I have layed into a few people for drinking and driving, some have been friends, others have been people I barely knew. I would talk with your friend about the consequences of driving under the influence! By the way, she was hit by an SUV similar to the one your friend was driving. I believe the driver who struck her just got out of prison last year. Another thing your friend might want to think about.

No more skiing for him for a while... I donno the law in the us but here you go to jail up to two years (more if deaths or injuries are implicated) and forget about driving again.

    Nice jeep... what a waste.

D.U.I. is definetly a concern around here. Bars are so far from home and taxi expensive.

You can say you'll only have a few beers then you go out for a puff and you fried. Best defence leave the wheels at home. Gotta leave the wheels at home...

Personally, I'd put drinking and driving right up there with buzzworthy's wife as things we shouldn't joke about.

    Seriously.

Glad your friends okay and no one got killed.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and ignorance is no longer an excuse),

Dude, it is a NOFX song, sorry...it was in my head.

I don't know anything about Buzz's wife either. What's that deal about? If someone lets me in the know, I won't go there either.

I was going to say this yesterday, but had no time...

If you kill someone drunk, you go to jail for a LONG time. This kid I want to school with, Mitch Damon, killed my friends sister by running a stop sign drunk and T-boning her at about 70mph. He is serving his 5 year of a 20 year sentence.

Here in Oreygon it is first degree vehicular manslaughter 20 years minimum. He was the first to be prosecuted.

You need to yell at that fucker. Make him realize just how lucky he is that he did not hurt anyone. Tell him he would have to live with that. Just make him think about it.

I also lost a baseball teammate, who was about a week from grad. a awesom drummer in a rad band...but his ass hole friend Emmit Adair, decited to steal a car and joyride it drunk. I think of him all the time as I drive by that fir tree with the huge scar on it. This happened when I was a freshman--by the time I was a senior, I transfered schools, and that asshole fucker came to my new school talking about his story, but he left out everything about how he was drunk, high and that the car was stolen...I wanted so bad to yell what a lying asshole he was, but he was crying and I did not have the balls....but that still gets me pissed that the fucker got off with a MIP, he went to diversion and got his DUII reduces.

They used this case helped pass our new tougher laws.
