    NAXO AT BINDINGS

I'm looking at getting a pair of Naxo AT bindings. Has anyone used them before or hava an opinoin of them? Are they rugged enough to withstand some big hits? Can you use a regular boot with them? Are they heavy? Any feedback on the Naxo binding or other types of AT bindints would be great.

They're great apart from when they're exposed to cold weather. Then they go a bit brittle.

I have a pair at the shop for yet another warranty repair so I'm not their biggest fan.

But that breakage isn't the reported cold weather issue of heel lever striking boot and snappping.

I hope Naxo manages to get things right soon. The companies founder/designer is a nice guy and has risked everything on the company.

Yea, tech talk indeed. We should have a political section so we can say, "Poly sci biatch!!" when we smell a lengthy political debate erupting.

ANYWAY, a buddy of mine broke 3 pairs of Naxo's last year...he's now on Freerides. Only Freerides for me as well. As a side note, I saw the new Silveretta's and they should've done more R&D or field work - they look and act flimsy in the shop, imagine what they'll do on the hill.

Hmmm... He simul-posted in Tech Talk... Bitches. 11:20 there, 11:21 here.

I think the concensus a while ago was for Fritschi Freerides (Diamir?) over Naxos. I don't AT, so I could be wrong...

depends on if you want to go up and down, or just up. if you want to do both better go with the freerides. I use them on all my skis now. i have passed a few people on a skin track that broke their naxos downhilling and had to go to the backup trekkers. once you use an AT binding you cant go back to trekkers. it's like riding a tram compared to holding on to a T-bar.

I bought a pair of Freerides because the Naxos were unproven.I like the look of the toe piece on the Naxos ,& the hinge point, but reliability is an important issue for me.Guess I made a good choice.

I'd wait a few years before buying the Naxos. Legoskier has them, and they look all cool and stuff, and I think they work well, but they're a pretty "young" AT binding compared to the freerides. I love my freerides. You'll hear that a lot, though.

    Oh, yeah, tech talk, biatch.

As DG said I bought the Naxos last year and put about 15 days on them. The biggest thing wrong with them is the stupid all plastic heal peice. It broke on me stepping into the binding as it has many others. The binding still works fine after this happens, you just need to push with your hand to get out of them.
Supposedly, this years version will have changes to address this and other reliability issues. Other than the heel problem, I have had no other issues and they work fine.
