    Grand Canyon

Just came back from a 16 day float down the colorado. Nice weather and clear water make for a good trip.

Words can be so overrated when it comes to TRs.

Sweet photos. Makes me miss the Grand. A lot.

Absolutely amazing photos, damn I have a lot to learn about the camera! Not to mention I flipped my raft and ruined my camera anyways, so now I need a new one, boo

Epic photos! I'm so stoked. I rafted it when I was 19 and now I'm rafting the grand canyon again starting next week and these photos are the perfect primer.

I have a couple questions Cmor, if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I really like the first night photo and the granite photo, are they HDR as well as a long shutter?

What did you do about camera batteries? I was thinking a solar panel would be rad, but impractical and expensive. I'd love to take a million photos, but I suspect my camera batteries wiil run out before 16 days are up.

Should I bring my climbing gear? Are there climbing guide books or popular routes? I never thought about climbing there, but it's got to be such an awesome place to climb.

    Thanks for sharing.

Nope just long shutter, I used ND's stacked on the Granite. I brought a cheap $20 tripod, which happens to be my only tripod, but then you don't have to worry about thrashing it.

I had 5 camera batteries. The long exposures kill 'em, I could have used more. Look on ebay for a 4 pack with your camera. I burned through all of mine and had to ration. solar panel might actually work, Lots of hanging around in the sun. Let me know if you try it.

If you want to climb there's plenty of trad. I don't know of a climbing book. There's a few bolts hanging out at the top of cracks to rap from if you look close. If you have a lot of climber's in your crew I'd bring one rack and everyone could just pack shoes and an alpine harness. If nothing else I'd bring a couple of nuts and cams to tie rafts to.

I assume you have a peli case. if not, get one and strap it next to your ammo cans so you can pop it open and closed quickly.

    And post when your back

Your pictures are better than mine..... Can't wait to go back next year and try again though.

I used a charger for my camera and ipod. I use a Canon Rebel xti,my pops was able to find a charger, that you charge beforehand, and it will hold the charge the whole time--and its good for 5 charges. I had battery (one battery in total) power the entire 21days,no problem. Even was able to give another friend on our trip a charge. He had the same camera though,it didn't work on everyone's battery. I love this device. Pops hiked out at Phantom Ranch and said i could keep it. Score! The storage device works on several different models of batteries. Its fairly small too.

He was also able to find a charger for the ipod too,its equally as handy. I like danger music when i raft,sometimes.....

Edit: And you gotta have the peli case. Sand and the elements will destroy your shit.

Thanks for the info. I'll be biking in Tahoe this weekend then off on Monday for the Canyon. I've got peli cases, ammo cans and mini-tripod. I ended up buying extra batteries on ebay for cheap! My buddy got some kind of a 12v solar charger for about $100, but my stuff has all wall chargers. Packed the climbing gear too. I'll post photos when I return.

Awesome pics in there. I rafted the Canyon about 10 years ago - it was such a cool experience. I recall my fav being hiking up the Little Colorado - the water was intensly blue with very white rocks (and warm). Then we floated down it (sitting in our life jackets) casually back to the main river.

16 day private trip in the Grand is about as good as it gets. Absolutely one of my favorite places on the planet.

Very nice. Great pics. Been dying to that trip. Going there this August but only to visit the North Rim. Hopefully we'll be back for the river ride, some day.

Bump, cause I just found out I'll be rowing an 18-day trip in the canyon over Halloween, and these pictures increase my stoke-level to previously-unexperienced highs!!
Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.
