Never had this problem before (prior to the past 2 weeks)
I read 5 pages of a thread, then close my browser (FF 3.0.10), which clears my cookies. When I come back and find that the thread has been updated, clicking "View First Unread" brings me to the first post...

not sure but clearing your cookies gets rid of all the data from that session. if you undo this setting, when you open the page back up after closing ff, it should remember you
