Try http://www.winmx.com I've been using it for ages.

Or if you like electronic music, google for message boards like this one but for music and dj/people generally post their mixes as direct downloads without the need of a peer-to-peer program.

Kazaa Lite works for me. I found my copy using Kazaa so i can't vouch for that web site.

Kazaa Lite is a hacked version of Kazaa -- no ads, more aggressive searching.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

Kazaa Lite has NO spyware, which is why it truly rules over regular Kazaa.

How is Limewire better than Kazaa lite? Are there more files to download?

Get a bittorrent client (like ABC or azureus) and go to suprnova.org, torrentreactor.net, etc.. Ton's of full albums, movies, etc.

Not usable for getting that one song though. I'm using Soulseek to get those..

For me it seems to be im not sure about songs because i havent tried it yet but definitely for porn everyone got scared away from the kazaa name after the law suites, and you constantly get those fucked up scratchy sounds in the songs the record companies flood kazaa with

If you use a mac, there's nothing better than Acquisition. It searches all networks and it syncs with iTunes

Limewire Pro does this too. I find it's a little more reliable with searches on my Mac...

I haven't tried any of these services yet, so this might be a stupid question. Are the services mentioned above any different than Napster in regards to their legality?
I'm not asking to be a smartass, I just wanna know.

edit: I'm talking about the old Napster before it was shut down.

Is there any program that gets around the scratchy downloads the record companies put out?? Thats hella annoying to have to download the song 20 times for one successful copy.

I'm pretty sure iTunes has legal downloads?

Other then that it's all illegal.

My main 3 that I use are eDonkey, Bittorrent, and k-lite.

eDonkey has by far the largest selection of files. It runs on the Guntella(sp?) style network connecting to small servers around the world. If you HAVE to get a file this is your program, but beware it has extremely slow downloads. Be ready to wait a few days at the earliest for it to download.

Bittorrent is the best for just about everything. www.suprnova.org has a huge selection of files and all are verifeid. It might be a little confusing on how to work it. if you would like they have a killer FAQ on how to get started. The only problem is that most of the files are whole CD's games ect so expect larger file sizes.

K-lite best thing for just a mp3 or two but is getting flooded with shitty fake copies. If you can't find it PM me and all send you the installer. Since it saves you the trouble of downloading Kazaa downloading it uninstalling Kazaa and removing the spyware.

So I'm not that avid of a music downloader/sharer, but I've never run into problems with a fake file. I use emule in combination with the IP blocklist from PeerGuardian. It blocks all the fake file server IPs. Also never had a problem with pop-ups. Yeah, it is slower than bittorrent, but if you can't find what you're looking for on emule, then it's not there.

The RIAA is only prosecuting (right now) people who are sharing generally more than 600 songs, not those who are downloading them. So just move your songs to a folder that isn't designated a 'shared folder' by your program and you should be fine.

Also, here's a working link for Kazaa Lite. It comes with pop-up blocking, IP blocking, no spyware...etc.
