um, are you serious. The Elan SCX was one of the original "super-sidecut" skis back in the day. It isn't produced anymore, that I know of, because I think the skiing public thought that much sidecut was a little ridiculous. I
f you need that much help turning the ski something is wrong. IMO.
steezarific!!
feel as you may.. all I know is that I started skiing again for the 1st time last season on these skis I was doing Double diamonds and backcountry at jackson hole with no problem at all.. as far as i know not many skis can offer that.
If these arent your deal.. then no worries.
Dude, with gaped out posts like this, you've opened the door to all kinds of ridicule. BakerBoy is the sweetest skier here, you should spancer him....he was in Powder magazine this month you know.Originally posted by skiphant

Get it right focker, it was last months. And being "able to ski" at an area like Jackson Hole isn't really representative unless you are an east coast person (where Phantom is phrom), and then its a lost cause, since we have poor ignant people from NY skiing on Spatulas. Then again, there's hope afterall!Originally posted by BlurredElevens

Lemme see if I got this straight:
- Someone made a ski specifically for skiing dense, uncut north eastern glades. They're advertised as having a tighter turn radius than any other ski or snowboard. From the copy on the website it looks like they're aiming for the middle-aged intermediate/advanced skier group.
- A bunch of extremo-mountain dudes who like to go fast and straight are ripping on the skis and those who ski them.
Does this strike anyone else as a bit silly?
My dog did not bite your dog, your dog bit first, and I don't have a dog.
Yes. Well said. From what I've heard, they do what they were designed to do very well. And some folks who don't want to like them, do.Originally posted by Will

I'm somehow related to Phantom. Here's some hype!
Yeah, I had fun on 'em the day I skied 'em. I woulda been on 196 GS skis, or 190 Head Supercrosses that day otherwise, so I was really unsure, but in the middle of ultra-tight (tighter than anything you've skied in the west, I can guarantee you) trees, they were really the only option.Originally posted by gincognito

Also, you can easily carve a 360 in the middle of a half-pipe.

Skiphant never said that's what they were designed for. They were just pitched to the general Maggot populace. Hence, ripping ensued.Originally posted by Will

Was this supposed to be a poke at me by any chance? Yes, I do have Spatulas, but get it right, I live in NJ, damnit!Originally posted by BakerBoy

ok- so i didnt exactly mention that they were Area specific (thought i did). I'm kind of an ass clown sometimes.
but w/ dims like those- they wern't exactly made for racing
just saw the chicken suit pics, you guys are fantastic. if theres any pics of a chicken mooning Bush- i'll pay good money for those.
~ sorry for the delayed resp.
I believe they call those thing snowblades!
Mark my words - folks are going back to big. The guys on the world cup on going back to 200's+ for GS, SGS and downhill. Don't get me wrong, they will never be on 225's again but those things look like something my grandma would put on her feet.
Stop jibbing in the park and make big turns on real skies - something around a 100 underfoot in a 198 please.
why make ten turns when you only need to make NONE!
I've been saying this for years, short skis are a FAD. They went through THE SAME THING in the seventies. You CANNOT go as fast in bumpy terrain with a shorter ski!
And that being said, all "new" skis that don't have reverse sidecut/camber are NOT new skis. Only a difference of flex, width and sidecut. If youre going to present something as "new", don't do it with a design thats been around for 100 years.
has skiing been around for 100 years?Originally posted by BlurredElevens

i want to see an epic thread on this ski. "the sidecut dimensions, along with the angular roational force of the skiers left foot make the ski unstoppable on naturally occuring focrces of nature."
I was amazed at how light and fluffy the powdery snow was and at how the challenge never ended.

What a relief!
Haven't I seen you at the morning rope drop at the Londonderry transfer station? That's where I get all of my boards... Hands off my Siderals!!
I've been cutting down some shruberry this summer around those parts.
All we need is snow
why make ten turns when you only need to make NONE!
