hip fai with labral tears, anyone??

have had this for so long. finally got diagnosed and am awaiting surgery options for either arthroscopy or resurfacing.
bilateral issues but one hip is way more painful. i can deal with pain but the worse side is dysfuctional.
haven't done sports in several years due to pain.
    freaking sucks.

    will i recover?
    anyone have this before?

    help!

I don't have the fai, but I do have a labral tear in my right hip and it does absolutely freaking suck. Mine's been going on for 7 years and they just diagnosed it this winter. Surgery soon hopefully and it looks promising for a good recovery.

I have the FAI. Not the labral issues. I'm supposed to have surgery (arthro) next month. I put it off last fall so it wouldn't get in the way of ski season. There's an FAI yahoogroup if you are interested.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

my doc is a hip fai specialist in nyc.
he says that all fai syndromes have a labral tear.
so where does that leave us?
if i cannot get back into action sports i will freak out. actually i have already freaked out and am still hoping to get in the water again.

i know i have arthritis already built up in one of the hips.
i just hope i am not fu**ed. i am 38 so i am maybe thinking resurfacing.
what have you guys heard about rates of recovery?
    thanks!

    thanks for the link
i am actually leaning more towards hip resurfacing...cuz my hips are more fucked up than i thought!
at least the recovery is *supposed* to be easier with better outcomes.
either way, hip surgery is scary.

I was told today by doc's assistant to expect 6 weeks on crutches, no more than 60lbs weight on operated leg. Was supposed to see doc, but they rescheduled until Monday. Surgery still scheduled for the 27th. I'm still a bit iffy on whether to go through with it. I get the cast off my right hand next Friday. That will leave me Memorial Day weekend as being more or less gimp-free. Then I'll be on crutches through the end of June it sounds like. FML.

Thanks for the link help4hips. Not much activity in the forum there. Kinda slow too. The FAI yahoogroup pisses me off. I can't read it because every f'ing moron that replies includes the entire thread in their reply so you have wade through and read stuff like 20 times when all you want is the response. Morons.

be sure to ask your doc about whether or not resurfacing is a possibility? the fai surgery works for a lot of people, though...but resurfacing is better if you have arthritis built up like me.
    check out surfacehippy.com or maybe it's surfacehippy.info.

just get all info you can before you commit.
