In that third pic you can see the highmarks, one of which was probably the trigger.

edit: My guess is the highmark on lookers right, but the left side of that track where it looks like a little rollover.

Pretty viscious terrain trap at the bottom. That is, if you survive to that point.

[QUOTE]One dead in avalanche near Valemount, B.C

    April 12, 2009

VALEMOUNT, B.C. - A 24-year-old snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche outside Valemount, B.C., Friday afternoon.

Valemount RCMP got a report just before 3 p.m. that a group of snowmobilers had triggered an avalanche in the Monashee Mountains, near the Clemina Creek snowmobiling area.

Details are still emerging, but RCMP said in a statement that the group were taking turns riding up a slope when one of them was buried. Other snowmobilers were able to dig the victim out, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

The victim was from Sherwood Park, Alta., just east of Edmonton.

Details of his identity have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The accident marks the 18th fatality for snowmobilers in B.C. avalanches this year.

Valemount is about 490 kilometres west of Edmonton.

Scariest thing is all of the previous highmarks that didn't trigger anything. That blows.

Fourth reported slide in that area since mid January involving snowmobilers highmarking. 2 fatalities. Snowmobile community pretty shaken up by it - discussion here http://www.snowandmud.com/forum/14/c...r-14605-7.html

I thought that too, there are lots of lines lookers left of the slide and coming out from the deposition area (all snowmobile?).

The slope is partially in the shade (maybe just cloud), I wonder what time of day it slid, the aspect, how long the snow had been down for, and if the sun had been on it.

Rest in Peace, 24 is too young. Condolences to his family and friends

    The Couloir is fun looking.

Hopefully this will spark a change in the 'biler thinking.

Saw this a little while ago. Scary looking terrain trap at the bottom. Wasn't there a fatal slide on the same slope last year aswell? The slope looks very fimiliar.
