    Lenas Report - Sofia Exists!!!!

Greetings from Lenas! It´s been a little windy the last couple of days. Earthquakes and wind closed down most of the chairs on Saturday. Which meant lower mountain only. I´d imagine East Coast trash heaps are better. Saturday was a 180. Cats were taking us up the mountain and Marte openned around 1. We did a nice 1 1/2 hour hike to find some really nice corn.

So if you´re headed this way don´t leave without your BC gear. The resort is in bad shape. The face of Marte is unskiable and the lower mountain is melting fast. They had to download the lower chairs today since snow is melting fast. The BC is looking fucking sweet though. So if you can get up top and are willing to hike, you´ll get the goods. Word is the resort is probably going to close on Saturday. Might score a cat before then and do some laps out back. Fun to be had, but just thought I´d warn those headed down.

Hopefully Bariloche will be better next week. See the SA conditions thread.

And yes, Sofia exists. I was at dinner on Saturday and this really cute waitress walked up. My sister asked her name and the response, "Sofia."´(Insert sound of water shooting out my nose) BWAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Unfortunately, she is a liar. She´s from northern Argentina, not Brazil. Still she wants informacion para skiing.

I apologize. We forgot the data cable for the digicam. You´ll have to wait a couple of weeks for pics of my gorgeous turns.

I think the earthquakes at Las Lenas are the same temblors that are felt in Chile on a fairly regular basis.

There was a pretty significant one last week in Chile with it's epicenter at about the same latitude as Las Lenas.

....you travel all the way to S.A. and you forget a cable to post pics!!!! I don't want to read posts I want to VIEW, I did enough reading in law school. I hate you. But than again you broke a pair of my skis, so I will always hate you.

Seriously, have fun down there, ski safe, and keep us updated even without pics....I guess.

Climbed a nice peak and skied off today with snorkeldeep, breez, TeleRob, ducktherope, and spats. Snorkeldeep pulls out tomorrow and has tons of pics. sea2ski just showed up, nightpanda and his pops left yesterday. Killadilla times in Tierra del Fuego.

FACK. Looks like I'm off on a 'searching for snow adventure.' Well, still plan for Mendoza on Thursday night- arriving LL on Friday afternoon for those that are still there. Pending on what happens with the snow, we'll see what happens.

I will, however, have pics upon return. Could very likely turn more into a TR on the Argentine beaches if this heat wave keeps up. 80 degrees in Mendoza, can you say Global Warming?

Mar del Plata definitely comes to mind. Ullr needs to deliver the goods or I'll be forced into a realm of grammer school beauties rolling on their high school winter breaks Great way to get into trouble, It will make for an intersting TR, though. hmmmmnnn.........

Anyone at Catedral yet? Snow looks okay from the webcams (although I'm sure it looks better from the Rocket!)

Dude, what do you think this is, civilization? Seriously, I feel like an ass for forgetting to bring the cable. And now 666 has gone from merely hating me to wanting to plot the death of my family. What do you expect from the devil though?

If I did provide pics it would be a mixture of beauty and ugliness. The BC at the resort is still holding up really well. So hiking will get you some good skiing. However, the resort is really bad. If they stay open past this weekend, I´d like to find out what these people are smoking. It´s going really fast. Temps have been in the 60s and 70s. You have to sleep with the windows open at night cause it´s too warm otherwise. I hear Bariloche is holding up well though. So that looks like the place to go.

If you need to call an audible and want help, track down Mark Lasseter from southamericaski.com. He´s taken really good care of us. He hooked us up with a cat for Thursday.

Edit: Waitaminute...pics may be forthcoming...know more in a few hours...

Didn't the same thing happen last season around this time? Seems like late August may be dicey in SA.

Not usually, but this year the early season snows never arrived and this heat wave isn't doing a whole lot of good

    Arty,
I'm off and running. We'll look for you on Friday. Not sure what to expect at LL, but plans are holding together. Be arriving on the bus Friday afternoon- look for us cooking in the sun about 4p-4:30p outside UFO deck. Likely to find us there. If not, PM your room # at Pisces or I'll probably run into you at the Wine Bar about 10:30p. And for those off to Bariloche, may run into you if scene in Lenas deteriorates.

    Rejoice !

Santa rosa is comming.(is santa rosa??)
The weather maps indicate a MASSIVE Stormsystem moving in from the pacific. I still dont know if Las lenas gets it's snow from the east or west, but if it does from the west as the chilean resorts do it will dump ! precip is forecasted along with snowlevels around 1000-1200m. (id say after a short look at 850hpa temps...) The west will be hammered.
And no i will not jinx it because 72-96h forecasts are pretty reliable these days.
It's a war of the mind and we're armed to the teeth.

Found out last night Lenas is planning to stay open through the end of next week. Cloudy today, but still warm. Still trying to figure out how to post pics too.

Arty...that really sucks ass. Use some FF miles and jump on a plane to NZ. They had a week of sunshine and perfect cool temps, and it has started to snow again...

    just a thought...
