Should I try to mount my bindings on my own or get a pro to do it, Is there anything that I should know before mounting them?

Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care
pro. been discussed a lot lately.
I love ya like a brother, but you sound like a bit of a retard.
Go with a pro.
vapor lock - bitch.
Other than that if you've never done it before and don't have a jig, you're almost definitely going to fuck it up. No offense.Originally posted by ak_powder_monkey

As someone who works in a shop I strongly urge you to mount the skis on your own.![]()

What the hell is wrong with mounting your own binders? *Shakes ske holding tow peice and it rips out*
No.
my best friends dad is a gun smith so I figured we could figure it out, what I'm wondering is if there is more then just drilling holes?

Drilling holes is most of it, but drilling them in the right place is by far the crux of the biscuit.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
Ben Franklin
Also, if you don't have the right drill bit, it is possible to drill too deep and ruin the base. I've done this before (the service manager wasn't too pleased with me) and certain skis are more susceptible to this than others.
The truth is, it's not that hard to do- IF you have the right tools. But you probably don't have the tools yourself, and the cost of buying them isn't worth it. Take it to a shop- if they fuck it up you will at least get something for free out of it.

Lighten up there...it ain't rocket science.... All you need is a ruler a felt pen and a drill....ok using some tape as well make life easier...
general warnings...don't drill to deep, no brainer, but also not to shallow, the screws will bottom out...unless your skis are realy thin, most binding specific drills go 9mm deep.
Measure lots of times...you only want to drill once, make sure you are using the right reference point...some skis use boot tip, others use boot center, having seen more than one shop get this wrong! The hardest reference point to measure on some skis is the middle across the ski!
Don't overtighten your screws, they need to be tight but don't srip em...if you are afraid of them falling out you can always epoxy them in (yes they will still come out when you try to remove them with a big screwdriver).
In the end if one of your holes is out by say 1mm it will be colser than a good amny shop mounted pairs!....some techs are sloppy, some are uneducated and others are well , enjoying the profits from mounting the last pair
I think I finally understand why Salomon makes the Pilot system...
As a former tech, I say do it. I used to mount all my own gear, too. I had a mounting jig, 3.6x9.5 / 4.1x9.5 bits, and years of knowledge...then again I'll never be a gunsmith, so I was probably just lucky to get by...
Is ruining a nice pair of sticks really worth the $30-$40 you'll have to fork out?
I've read some of your posts before, thus giving you a NO by safety default. If you do, though, the toe thingy goes in the front and the heel clicky thingy goes in th......... oh, never mind.
Most shops will mount for a 12 pack. Just talk to a tech there and he/she will probably do it for you when they have some free time. If you do want to mount your own bindings (which isn't worth it at all) then put some wood glue into the holes before screwing the bindings on. This will waterproof the binder holes (temporarily) and add help keep the screws in your skis.
Maybe I'll learn on a cheap pair of skis, cause its definatly something I need to learn to do like building a mountain bike (wich is like $200 at the shop)
